Of all the things to complain about, the Obama Presidential Library, which is a public amenity designed to be utilized by the underserved community on the south side of Chicago, is really fucking low on the list.
OP is also applying divisive politial labels to an image that is for the most part apolitical.
Libraries, public/private capital, public space, access to housing, presidential legacies are absolutely political topics.
divisive
agree an that part tho
apolitical
Obama presidential library
???
an image that is for the most part apolitical
I’m surprised the image is political at all
🤫“architecture”
how fuck in the head does a person have to be to feel a presidential library is political
For the “underserved” of the south side yet built on an already existing public park…
Designed to gentrify an under-served community. You think they’ll be able to afford rent next to the Obama temple?
This leftist versus liberal shit really needs to stop. I’m starting to think that it’s intentional propaganda to try to keep the left divided.
Liberals aren’t on the left. The left and liberals have always been divided because we have completely different, irreconciliable goals
Suck as fucking sharks?
Except liberals supporting capitalism and imperialism aren’t worth working with outside of single issue campaigns temporarily.
I mean, i am willing to work with libs as long as our goals are aligned. But if they glaze a war criminal I will call them out
Our goals are aligned. The only difference as far as I can tell is that some leftists think they are part of a special club and act a lot like magats.
and liberals want capitalism and imperialism to continue so no not aligned.
Some liberals are just misinformed leftists who could be turned with education. Some are just right wingers who are embarrassed by open right wingers.
We can work with the former, not so much the latter.
The problem is it takes a while to figure out which is which.
This,
most liberals are just hatchling leftists
It’s really interesting. The rhetoric of liberalism is like 80-90% just leftism. Freedom, democracy, equality, justice, treating people kindly, etc. They straight up teach it to you in schools. The seeds are there. The problem is that it lacks class analysis and hides or twists the ways in which liberalism doesn’t actually do any of that stuff. So people end up believing that the countries which actively stand in the way of these principles are actually the ones upholding them. It takes a lot of evidence to show people that the bad things we’ve done aren’t just isolated incidents, but part of a pattern that naturally arises from the system.
The problem is not taking the time to figure it out is letting conservatives win.
100% agree. It’s still something we need to at least try, it’s just hard and understandable why it can frustrate people.
How are the goals aligned if you’re willing to glaze war criminals?
Liberals are objectively maga-lite unlike the way you’re trying to frame it. They were very well cheering for genocide-lite so they could keep their status quo.
Liberals have made it abundantly clear they are more close to the right than the center.
The vanguard has always been thus.
You have the problem with them. Let it go.
Liberalism isn’t left-wing. Well, maybe a little anti-king, but not enough to actually depose of them, so practically a little right-wing as well.
It’s not comparable to Communism/Socialism/AnachoCommunism/etc, which is (IMO) “proper” left-wing.
I’m a left-winger in so far that I want to get rid of our king. Kings come from Christendom, and Christianity is cringe. I’m a
Tribalist“Descendants Republican” (for a lack of a better term), not a Communist, mind you. I want parents in the “2e kamer”, and grand-parents in the “1e kamer”. No more singles that don’t need to look ahead 50 years. Also a limit on age: 70 should be fine, I think? Its not propaganda. It’s 300 years of human history. 300 years of liberals murdering leftits.
Could you drop a few examples?
Of liberals murdering leftists? How far back do you want me to go? Gracchus Babeuf? Adolphe Thiers? 1846? How about the school of the Americas?
lets say 300 years or so
Yes.
wait until they ask how many people they can house with the money they spent on the war. or by taxing billionaires.
we have the resources for everyone to live a comfortable life. but the people in power want workers. and they artificially create scarcity to motivate workers…
I like how Obama prosecuted Abu grabe torture whistleblowers under the espionage act that was awesome
Let’s spend all our effort stopping Obama from building something that helps working class people. You .ml losers spend way more time and energy trying to stop good but not perfect things than you do during to stop actual fascists. It really makes you wonder what your agenda really is.
I remember when Real-ID was being proposed. I was dead set against and volunteered with groups calling voters, going door to door etc.
One day some Mormons came knocking and before I could speak they specifically pitched that the Government was about to institute the Mark of the Beast.
I was elated; I had the governor’s feedback phone number on speed dial and asked them to take 30 seconds and leave him a voicemail saying “don’t do that”
They flatly refused, because they “don’t get involved in Earthly politics”
To told them to get the fuck off my property
Sounds about right lol
Yeah, and now trying to paint himself a man of taste and knowledge, spirited mind bullshit.
What if an erudite good person is a poor President specically in terms of managing foreign adversaries?
Title and image do not match at all
Yeah I don’t know what OP is, but it’s well suspicious that they start more threads than they actually comment in, and post baffling captions like this. Can’t decide between bot or just a teenage edgelord
$850mil is like… five houses. So I think this was a better usage of money.
How much could a banana cost
This gotta be a joke right?
It’s pretty clearly a joke about the highly inflated housing costs. Sorry my humor is too high brow for you (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ*.゚
Sorry, am not good at reading others :<
You’re forgiven because it felt cathartic acting like a 2014 toxic tumblr user for a moment.
Even one house would have been better than a monument to the guy who drone striked children
…you’re joking right?
given all that is going on this is a minor thing, but the fuck is going on with Americans building temples and monuments to functionaries?
Yhea, in theory they are libraries and open for the community, but in reality, they are temples commemorating war criminals
Here, if you’re really interested. Their main purpose is to give the public access to their records and papers so they can’t just hide them in a bathroom
Cant they just upload them on a website?
Yes, and in this case they actually did. The Barack Obama Presidential Library is a fully online library. The center is a separate monument.
I like Obama, but honestly I am not wild about this. Presidential libraries don’t need to be opulent monuments. And the amount of private money going into them is an avenue for corruption.
They think they’re Roman.
I’m reminded of when Andrew Carnegie built libraries but his miners mocked him for it because they didn’t have time or energy to read and said higher wages would benefit them instead, and he mocked them for demanding higher wages saying they’d waste it on better cuts of meat or more drink for their dinner
which one is the liberal and which one is the leftist?
It doesn’t matter. The point is infighting
its not infighting when we have vastly contradicting means and ends.
My suspicion is that it’s not even that originally; there’s a certain type of right-winger who feigns to champion progressive values to try making the left look like hypocrites.
There is no infighting when there is no actual in-group.
Anyone else see an emo face?
Will never unsee
The thing is they built this place on top of a park that already existed. Basically 90% of the people on the south side hate this building because it was forced on them and it adds nothing new to their part of town except gentrification.
the keen eyed amongst us may be able to discern that none of the things listed is “housing”
How about this $300 billion “please stop humiliating me Iran” fund?
I’m actually curious about the answer. Some back of the napkin math (aka take it with a grain of salt), it looks like ~100,000 could be housed in a rapid rehousing / temporary housing structure or ~40,000 in permanent supportive housing but the number is super variable based on location. Like are we talking housing them in NY, LA, SF or like rural West Virginia, Mississippi, Oklahoma? Also if one were to buy out whole homes for like $400,000 to give to the individual homeless then it’s like 2,125 people, although I doubt anyone is suggesting that. Irl probably 10,000 to 20,000 after a large sum of the money has leaked out due to overcharging and corruption.
Based on this article, I would make similar estimations. With the caveat that its the cost of providing housing for 1 year, not forever.
Well it’s not like the structure evaporates after a year but yeah a participant would only get about a year.
Yes and many times a year can be more than enough for a person / household to get the medical / social help they need or its just the right starting point to be able to support themselves. I mainly wanted to add more information and not really take away from your comment
Testament to how private wealth isn’t helping the homeless either.
Libraries can help the homeless by providing access to resources they don’t get elsewhere. Email, internet, entertainment, water, bathrooms etc. The park is also a nice addition for everyone I assume.
It’s a lot more of a positive investment than missiles and AI at least
The homeless have problems, but I’m not sure they represent the highest and greatest need for humanity to focus on.
