Is that why I have had to lie? Its not repectfully backing off. Its boundry pushing- to a point until youre telling them you have a man in your life even if you dont. It’s not that they respect you for being taken so they back off, its fear your man gonna come out swinging at them.
The ones who don’t fear this, will keep going at it even if you tell them you have a man.
A man who respects, takes the first… at most the second “no thank you” and leaves it.
I think a problem is the whole concept of “playing hard to get”.
Like I always took no for an answer, and once growing up was told point blank by a girl that I “gave up too easily” and she was disappointed that “I must not have wanted her enough if I backed down so easily”. In a more severe and screwed up case, an ex mocked me for never “taking her” because when it would get close to that she would always start saying to stop, and I would, and she said a “real man” would have gone for it anyway.
I’m ultimately glad to not be caught up in playing those games, but there are absolutely people that want to see a guy assert themselves in that sort of way and reward the bad behavior.
