Microsoft admits Game Pass price hike drove away “millions” of subscribers
It seems Microsoft was unaware of this obvious fact when it increased Game Pass prices last year, only now admitting that “millions” of people left as a result. Speaking during a Summer Game Fest interview with Game Business Live (via GameSpot), Microsoft’s recently installed Xbox chief strategy officer, Matthew Ball, spoke about the impact of the Game Pass price hikes that were introduced last October. The change saw Game Pass Ultimate jump 50%, rising from $19.99 to $29.99 per month. PC Game Pass also increased from $11.99 to $16.49, marking nearly a 40% hike. Instead, they will come to Game Pass about a year after their release. 🖊️️🤖

5. 📰 Does this Count as Retro?: Hobbyist Is Recreating Microsoft 3D Pinball: Space Cadet As A Real Table (direct link) (👍340 👎2)

Hobbyist Is Recreating Microsoft 3D Pinball: Space Cadet As A Real Table
Another hobbyist is attempting to recreate the classic free Windows game, 3D Pinball For Windows: Space Cadet, better known as Space Cadet 3D Pinball, and since that hobbyist is CNCDan, who is known for actually completing his projects, tech press and the Internet at large is standing at attention. First is the brief history lesson that Space Cadet Pinball as you know it is actually a demo for a full game released under the name of Full Tilt! Besides the previous failed attempt at a physical Space Cadet Pinball table done by an obscure WordPress blogger in 2012, there have been other efforts to preserve this classic for the modern age. This includes a gorgeous, detailed Blender-made Space Cadet pinball table dropped on the r/Pinball subreddit in December 2022, and various ports including a browser-playable version at ClassicReload (the DOSZone version based on an open-source port is more popular, but didn’t work in my testing.) Flathub moves to ban nearly all apps and submissions made with generative AI
Flathub, one of the most popular ways to grab applications on Linux, has a newly updated generative AI policy - where it’s pretty much all banned. The new policy reads:Generative AI policy This policy applies to both the application being submitted to Flathub and the Flathub submission itself, including the manifest, metadata, patches, build scripts, and pull request. For the purpose of this policy, applications include BaseApps, extensions, and any other artifacts that can be produced by flatpak-builder. Automated Copilot reviews on GitHub can be disabled by the submitter by going here and changing Repository access to exclude the repo or disabling the global “Automatic Copilot code review” found here. As always, we are not applying this retroactively, so any vibecoded apps which were already published will remain available. 🖊️️🤖
