I’ve been wondering for a few days now if anyone in ancient Rome thought the same way about the gladiator arenas and chariot racing.

That is where the phrase “bread and circuses” (panem et circenses) comes from, an Ancient Roman satirist named Juvenal who was deriding the government’s approach of placating the masses. Other parties also didn’t like the circuses, especially the more violent ones, for example Stoics like Seneca.

This rules actually. Well, not the military jerkoff part, but the motorcyclists.

If I somehow inexplicably become president, we’re celebrating the free trains and healthcare by crushing useless military hardware with monster trucks. And there’s gonna be a lot of useless military hardware to go around, because we dismantled the empire.

You know what…you advertise yourself like Monster Jam and tell people you’ll be crushing jeeps with tanks, and then crushing tanks and jets with monster trucks…you actually might get the trump vote.

      TUESDAY TUESDAY TUESDAY.

Shit, like up until maybe a few years ago I’d catch commercials on CNN or the weather channel for MONSTER JAM, so I’d imagine zoomers out there get it.

As a Zoomer I havent watched an ad period or watched a tv in years. I am definitely an outlier on how strict my adblock is and not using any streaming services but not having cable is very common these days so idk how many people are watching CNN or the Weather Channel.

We’re still saying “bread and circuses,” which came from Ancient Rome, so I think “Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!” can survive for a while even if those ads are much less common now.
