Marie-François Firmin-Girard was born on 29 May 1838 in the village of Poncin, a hamlet in the Ain region of France adjacent to the Swiss border. By age sixteen, the ambitious young artist had left his hometown to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Initially he sought out the guidance of Charles Gleyre, the Swiss painter, who offered a traditional visual arts curriculum in an independent studio setting. Later, Firmin-Girard would study with Jean-Léon Gérôme, the academic master of orientalism and anecdotal history paintings.

The artist really enjoyed painting leaves
If I could paint them that well I probably would too. Although I guess that’s a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation, huh.
A lot of parts of this are nigh photorealistic. Incredible skill.
Will someone please interview that blue man and ask him if he is controlled by outside forces
More likely he and his fiancée are being controlled by the older adults, who look like they’re discussing the real estate transaction this marriage will consummate.
Yes I see that, I apologize as despite the exquisite artistry, not trolling I do adore.
Clearly the Blue Man was hit with an infection, and he is dying. That’s why his pants and boots are all special, because he is about to go.
The blue man never stole my girl that is weird stop asking
Sometimes I think I have a handle on the great artists from this or other periods, only to be reminded how glaringly incomplete my knowledge really is. All that to say ‘great piece!,’ effectively.
Ugly and boring.
Intense colors!
