They won’t stop a school shooter but they’ll help beat up the kids. What the hell is going on in this clown-show country we’re living in?

What did you expect when the only response to Uvalde was to force all the schools to bring in police officers, which absolutely did not prevent that tragedy or many others? Public school police exist to harass minorities and kids whose parents aren’t wealthy enough for private school so they end up with criminal records before they graduate.

I’m not against the concept of SROs (school resource officers)…but they gotta be the least intimidating people on the force.

They should absolutely not be armed with anything more than a whistle. Their uniform should be now more than a polo with a badge and no armor.

Having strapped and padded cops in school is a big part of the problem. All that gear goes to their head.

I might accept “non-lethal” gear, in their office and maybe a secondary location in the campus, locked down tight, in the (highly unlikely) event they need to respond to something like a school shooting. Maybe a small side-arm. Certainly nothing like the standard issue penis extenders most cops are carrying. But in such an event, their primary role is defensive…guarding kids and guiding them to safety or enforcing the lockdown these poor kids are getting drilled into them these days.

School officers should be among the people that are building trust with the students. Not fear. Respect through trust is much more important than respect through fear.
