Status Coup reporter Jordan Chariton and videojournalist Jon Farina were on the ground outside Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey, on May 27th as chaos erupted during the ongoing hunger and labor strike. As detainees inside continued protesting conditions including worms in food, black mold, delayed medical care, and other abuses, tensions boiled over outside the facility. Footage shows ICE agents deploying pepper balls and pepper spray, threatening protesters with tasers, shoving people with traffic cones, and repeatedly forcing protesters into active roadways with cars and semi-trucks passing nearby.
