Reminds me of the final pages of chapter 3 of the second volume of Maus (1991) in which a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust acts egregiously and unrepentantly racist to a black hitchhiker, surprising a friend who thought that the suffering would have engendered empathy for discriminated races.

Torture damages people, plain and simple; don’t expect victims to gain wisdom or empathy from the process. So, maybe don’t give them nukes and back the religious megalomaniacs among them who end up committing the same genocidal practices against others such as the Palestinians.
There are something like 100k Israelis who are still alive and survived the Holocaust. That is mostly just due to the Holocaust ending over 80years ago and people die of old age.
Honestly I dislike the constant Holocaust comparisons. They play into Israeli propaganda, as the connection between Israel and Jews is very obvious and Jews were the victims of the Holocaust. That makes Israel look like a victim just defending itself.
It’s hard to explain to someone who can only hold one sentence in working memory that the holocaust was bad because it was a genocide and that what Isreal is doing is bad because it’s a genocide. It’s like a fixed number of words, letters, or syllables. They fixate on presumption and emotion because they cannot engage with intellectual debate. I’m strawman-ing a bit, but I don’t know how we prevent people like this sinking the entire ship.
