Yesterday I read Dungeon Crawler Carl book 1 cover to cover in the afternoon.
Great writing style, I enjoyed the world building. Breezy to read. Would recommend
Book 1 isn’t self contained, it doesn’t resolve the major plot arcs, just sets them up.
I think the special skill demonstrated is the authors ability to humanize all the characters, flesh them out, give them some depth…
I got a couple of books in before it became obvious there was no real arc. Author was writing them serially by chapter for his patreon and it kinda shows. It gets a little tired after awhile and then I was bored reading them. But I agree with you, his writing style is extremely easy to read and it does grab your attention.
I just finished book 2, very breezy, read the whole thing in a afternoon, and yeah… it is like a old school newspaper serial… Not much meat. It’s still interesting, and very much a page turner, but looking back… its kinda well constructed filler pager turner and not much depth.
I’m getting magic “and then” vibes, the rules are not consistent, but cleverly that fits into the unfairness of this universe so its easily disguised but lets the author constantly change the rules and outcomes (i.e. harry potter) but with camouflage, it wasn’t convenient writing it was the universe being unfair!
I’m getting very real made for tv A plot and B plot vibes… Most of the book is B plot, and a few pages are A plot.
