House candidate Maureen Galindo pledges to send ‘American zionists’ to internment camp

Controversy-tarred congressional candidate Maureen Galindo this week pledged to transform a site south of San Antonio now used by the Trump administration to detain migrants into an internment camp for “American Zionists.”

“She’ll turn Karnes ICE Detention Center into a prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers for human trafficking,” Galindo wrote in an Instagram post over the weekend, referring to herself in the third person. “It will also be a castration processing center for pedophiles, which will probably be most of the Zionists.”

Galindo’s latest set of inflammatory remarks comes as the Democratic hopeful for Texas’ newly redrawn 35th Congressional District continues to draw national attention for remarks critics have called antisemitic and untethered from reality. The controversy is snowballing as she heads into the May 26 Democratic primary runoff.

Over the past week, Galindo has accused her runoff opponent — former Bexar County Public Information Officer Johnny Garcia — of participating in a human trafficking conspiracy orchestrated by billionaire zionist Jews. She also pledged during a Texas Public Radio interview to put Garcia on trial for treason.

Beyond her attacks on Garcia, Galindo has continued to promote the narrative that a cabal of Jewish zionists controls Hollywood, the media and even local politicians.

Even so, in comments to the Current and other media outlets, Galindo maintained she only has an issue with zionists, or those advocating for the existence of a Jewish state in their ancestral homeland, rather than Jews in general.

“I think it’s actually the zionists who are putting Jewish people at the most risk,” Galindo told the Current last week.

How dare they purity test my vote blue no matter who?! I swear it’s like they don’t want the lesser evil candidate to win. They’re essentially helping fascism win by saying anything negative about her when her opponent is actively pro-genocide. Etc etc

If liberals had any sort of consistency to their logic, they wouldn’t be liberal anymore.

I just don’t understand why this is a bridge too far but having a totenkopf tattoo and guarding (and more) massive torture and death camps is something that should be overlooked.

Interning zionists and castrating pedophiles is a completely logical and reasonable position to take in 2026. I say we hear her out, and push her further left (executing the pedophile elite in a public square).

Of course, this being America: pedophile is also used to refer to queer and lgbtq people. So who knows.

Clearly the reasonable choice is the Abu Ghraib blackwater merch with the totenkopf tattoo

When someone starts talking about sending “Zionists” off to camps, I think it’s a pretty safe bet that they are using it as a dogwhistle for Jews. Am I missing something? This person sounds like a Nazi to me, they’ve been using “Zionist” for a little while now, since they know how unpopular Israel is with everyone else and it is an easy “foot in the door” for more anti-Semitic rhetoric.

I’m not sure why the comments here seem to be in favour of this person and their rhetoric, it really sounds like Fascist dogwhistles, unless I’m really just not getting it, and if so, can someone please explain? As the contradictions of capital worsen, and the Fascists rise, they will co-opt left wing rhetoric more and more until they don’t need to anymore and can finally go mask-off. That’s what this looks like to me, a Fascist riding a wave of popular leftist sentiment into power and using dogwhistles to signal to the fash.

You’re looking too much into it. This is just making a provocative statement by an electoral outsider against the ruling class (who we should be reminded are all Zionists) to drive media attention to her campaign.

Saying its a dogwhistle for Jews that gives ground to Nazi wreckerism doesnt make sense to me though. Its not obvious to me that this is a holocaust reference when the framing is of a currently existing ICE camp being transformed into one that holds american Zionists and ice agents (thats skews almost exclusively ruling class and cops).

The bigger more obvious fascist dogwhistle is the castration for pedophiles statement which is just a welcome mat for unsavory politics.

    aoc has denounced her

oh did she react to some of the more questionable statements from this person that were quoted by the nyt?

aoc denounced the cool and obviously correct thing that she said

    yea

  • I have done no investigation

This person may be on the up-and-up, but I always worry about language like this being used by actual antisemites to backdoor their shit. IMHO Strasserites like ACP will be the biggest struggle for Marxist groups in the US over the next few years, and I just frankly don’t trust anyone who says things that sound good but doesn’t combine it with explicit theory. Tucker Carlson and MTG can also rail against Zionists.

Castrating Zionists might be a good sound byte, but without explicitly saying you include evangelicals and oligarchs like Musk, feels “dog whistley”. I know her opponent is a fucking ghoul so I don’t put much credence in the pearl clutching rhetoric against her.

Not in her district. If I were I would do some real investigation and form a real opinion instead of this vibes-based analysis.

from my understanding she’s a tenant union organizer, dont think you can put her anywhere close to tucker carlson and mtg. my impression is that she’s a left wing woo woo person which is where some of the antisemetic ideas/soundbites come from

It appears that she’s actually got the correct definition of Zionist judging by some instagram posts where she explicitly states “putting billionaire zionists in prison does not mean putting all Jews in internment camps”, but the fact that she has to go on the defensive and clarify that is not great. Like it’s easy enough to say the phrase “Billionaire Zionists like Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein” just to send it home a bit.

    waow-based

I am going to vote for her in my local election. I don’t care that she’s not running in my state. I’m also going to vote for her for president in 2028 even if she doesn’t run. It’s about time we had a strong woman in charge who’s willing to end the wars!

More seriously though, if I hadn’t already determined that AOCIA is cancelled for abetting the Palestinian Genocide, her denunciation here would be enough for me to cancel her. Zionists rabidly support and commit genocide, therefore they are evil and must be repressed. We all uderstand that about Nazis

I get that this is about where the median is for internet messaging, but I don’t think “castrate people” translates to a successful campaign in like a door knocking, interacting with people face to face sense. I don’t even think it does much to shift the Overton window.

I don’t disagree with the sentiment, but if you’re doing electoralism, it just doesn’t seem strategically sound. Saying something that others find shocking and frustrating because you yourself are shocked and frustrated with the state of US foreign policy. Cathartic maybe, but… i dunno I fail to see how its anything more than cathartic.
