Rivers around the world are quietly running out of oxygen — and climate change is emerging as the main culprit. A sweeping global analysis of more than 21,000 river systems found that nearly 80% have been steadily losing dissolved oxygen over the past four decades, threatening fish, biodiversity, and the overall health of freshwater ecosystems. Surprisingly, tropical rivers are being hit the hardest, even more than rivers in rapidly warming polar regions.

    I know, I know, we’ve known this for a LONG time and we never cared before, why would.we care now?

    Yeah, om cynical as hell because my prediction is that we will kill ourselves within the decade

    We’ve known were killing our only livable habitat for decades. Loads of people did huge amounts of work to spread the word and do something about it and then a few psychopaths made a few decisions to undo all that hours, days, years, decades work within minutes. That happened ten times over and we keep allowing narcissists with psychopathic tendencies, so yeah, here we are.

    Whatever anyone is going tondo to improve this, if any, will be undone within minutes again to ensure shareholders get mac revenue.

    So this won’t be fixed, ever. I’m sorry to be the bad news bear here, but this is what it is. I haven’t seen improvements in the last 40 years, I’ve only see abuse going harder and harder, so this too will only get worse and worse, and that’s it.

    There is nothing I can do about this to stop this, barring murdering all politicians and billionaires world wide. That won’t happen, of course, they will murder all of us and then hide in their billionaire bunkers with AI robo dogs, until eventually their food/water/oxygen runs out too and then they’ll die too and humanity will finally have gone extinct

    My only hope is that some life will be left so that the world can recover and who knows, 50 million years from now we may again have intelligent life, still soon enough to have a chance of escaping the sun before it goes boom.

    Edit: yes, this reply is cynical as fuck. It’s also an honest observation of how things have gone so far Anyone saying I’m full of shit and that we, the normies can actually do something honest to stop this really should come to me and buy my bridge, I have it on discount!

    So how far do we let this go before fighting back do wwe wait until every living thing is dead or just most of them or just until we’re totally sure its inevitable but hasn’t happened yet because lemme tell you I’m looking for excuses to skip out on my cardio

      When the market crashes there will be even some fighting. But in the end, there will be a lot of poor people struggling to make a living in a degraded environment.

      Never. It’s not going to happen that way

      I think slowly groups will just splinter into different sides until the global communication is damaged and then it’ll be an awful mix of fake news, propaganda, paranoia and terrorism until the environment collapses and tons die.

      Oh wait that all has already happened.
