I couldn’t resist this goofy keyboard, although its heft and quality suggest an industrial use, it has annoying quirks such as the escape key being in a weird place and the space bar being small so I hit the Alt keys instead. But man the keys are good! It’s an ione (iONE?) Scorpius 35, for 4.95$.

Next I scored a UHD of A Bug’s Life for 5$ at the Salvation Army, not the usual spot for 4K stuff.

Then a Breville Inissia Nespresso machine. Took a gamble in store since there’s no water there to test. The machine had all its accessories, didn’t stink, was clean, and powered up nicely. I started the pump and the heater warmed up so I gambled 23.85$.

It does make a shot but there’s a leak somewhere inside. Maybe time to crack it open on the weekend.

Yeah it’s the little Nespresso capsules, there are various third-party cheaper ones. I’m not overly fond of the coffee this machine makes, along with its larger brother the Vertuo line of capsules, it all tastes like coffee-flavored water.

But it’s close enough, and I am tremendously lazy and I like the simplicity of tossing in a capsule.

it all tastes like coffee-flavored water.

And if you actually manage to get the damn things to make a moderately “strong” cup of coffee it’s stale as fuck. I had a roommate who would buy beans, “because they are better when you grind them yourself”…not grind fresh per brew. I grew up on welfare, not a lot of money for luxury items. My parents never skimped when they bought coffee. It was one of the relatively inexpensive things they could afford to buy that made days better.

This motherfucker… he’d buy two bags of actually really expensive “artisanal, small batch” beans every couple weeks. Spend time grinding all of it and leaving it…fuck me… leaving it in a mixing bowl…a fucking mixing bowl.
Not very often, but occasionally, I’d be too tired/forget to stop by the store after work and get myself some coffee. Nespresso pods taste like this guy’s wasted coffee in a mixing bowl. All the oils and volatiles would offgas, and all you’re left with is worse than knock-off Folgers.

        Coffee snob rant over.

I do like the build quality and the key action, but I can’t figure out the changes to a standard layout, like, why?

Like you said, almost certainly a case that it’s been used for specific machines, like CNC or factory stuff. I’ve seen them before, weird custom layouts like that.

I don’t really like that the keyboard omits the dpad keys, but keeps the numpad? The numpad is almost useless to me, personally, I specifically got a keyboard without it so I don’t have to reach as far for my mouse.

You mean the upside-down T of cursor arrows? It’s there. There’s also a trackball!

Ah, nice. That’s good then. I stand by my unhappiness with the numpad tho. :)

For me numpad is super useful. And for the initial intended use even! I’m not a great typist, but I know the exact position of all the keys for the numpad. My “WPM” quadruples if I’m typing strings of numbers 💪😎
