‘Degrowth communism’ could address our most pressing social ills, argues Japanese scholar Kohei Saito.

I’m normally really wary about upvoting anything posted on hexbear, but in this case the article is well-reasoned and well-written, and the USSR fanbois adequately upset, so all in all thumbs-up.

Isn’t this the most upvoted comment in the thread?

This article is idiotic. It’s anticommunist drivel that just exists to help the western left rationalize shitting on actually existing/existed socialism in China/USSR because they weren’t green enough.

        Sounds rather upset to me.

I’m not. MF_COOM isn’t. I’m the one that posted it. And Saito is a tankie too. Besides, the comment isn’t about degrowth.

            Good good. Happy for you.

But I struggle to see how Saito can be called a tankie when he’s so critical of the Soviet Union and of historical communism.

Or maybe we have fundamentally incompatible definitions of what is a tankie.

Don’t get me wrong: I like Saito’s ideas. Are they going to happen? No.

“tankie” seems to mean means “anyone who annoys me online from the left” at this point tbh

I’m down with this. But let’s address the elephant in the room about “degrowth,” it necessitates population control.

Monthly Review is good for this sort of thing. They have lots of articles about eco-socialism and degrowth, especially recently.

A compelling argument, but I disagree.
