Not only that, but she was the most popular 3rd party candidate in the 2024 election and still only got 0.5% of the total votes cast. Proving that you can’t just magically make a 3rd party candidate president without building a nationwide coalition and gaining seats in Congress first.

If you’re voting 3rd party in a presidential election in the United States, you’re a goddamn idiot.

Capitalists loves it when Americans vote third party, because that means the fascist party wins. Whoever made this meme seems to not really understand how fucked up the US election system is, and how tailored it is to allow an oligarch minority to rule everything.

The only problem is that it’s a wasted vote. In the UK and US, there are only two parties that have any chance of getting in, as as much as I would love to see a Green ruling party, it will not happen until we have proportional representation. The Lib Dems are probably your best bet for that in the UK, seeding as they got 70 seats in the last election. Once they get power and implement proportional representation, then we can vote for whoever we actually want.

If you believe the greens don’t have a shot in the UK you’ve not been looking at the polling. Both the major parties are polling atrociously while the greens are currently sitting in second. Also o shan’t be voting for the lib dems on the back of them promising vote reform I fell for that last time and it went atrociously for all.

Really? I’ve been unplugged from world politics in all but the most obvious events, because… well, living in a crumbling fascist society and all that jazz.

That news about the UK Greens is fantastic!

Tbf if everyone “wasted their vote” then the “waste” candidate could win, but the self defeating prophecy of “they can’t win so don’t even try” being so popular is exactly why “they can’t win so don’t even try.” It’s an ouroboros of dumbassery.

I mean, it’s not like The Whigs had a bunch of internal disputes and split off to join the newly formed 3rd party “The Republicans” who then went on to become way larger than they were in their beginning as a third party or anything, that’s why it’s still Whigs vs Democrats and always has been, 3rd parties like The Republicans are just a fad since the 1850s, you’ll see or whatever.

All I’m saying that it’s quite convenient for the parties in power that you can’t remove them without breaking their rules.

God I wish we had more than two parties here in the States. Being able to support a left-wing third party, however flawed, with a nonzero chance of electoral influence, like the Aussie Greens, would be a fucking godsend.

Gotta fuckin’ kill FPTP here. It’s killing us.

And fuck anyone who says that giving votes in the fucking legislature to a left-wing party is somehow sabotaging anti-conservative efforts. There may be a few circumstances where strategic voting is needed - but generally that’ll be coordinated on a large scale, like the massive effort in France to deny the far-right a legislative majority, not simply supporters of the less progressive party starting (metaphorical) brawls with supports of the more progressive one.

It’s not “capitalists” or “liberals” saying that; it’s cold hard math (game theory). You can vote tactically, or you can lose. Those are your choices, and reality doesn’t give a shit if you like them or not.

OP (and the instance itself) is Aussie. They have a Green Party with actual influence, including seats in the national legislature.

The peculiar form of fuckedness that mandates tactical voting in the US has to do with our political and voting system, which has resulted in only two viable parties nationwide, which is especially apparent in presidential elections (the only elections that are ACTUALLY nationwide).

      It’s… not fucking great.

Otherwise, the only tactical voting I would say is necessary would be in mass coordination to deny the far-right a seat, or choosing a viable party over a nonviable one - ie the Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism Party might be based, but if it’s not viable, picking the Greens over Labour or the Liberals is the legitimate choice unless you’re really feeling a protest vote is important at that junction.

Subs to comm called “memes of production”

    Checks comments

It’s liberals all the way down

Most of y’all talking about the US presidential elections but how many of y’all live in swing states? We think third party votes kept MS from going Dem? AL? Hell, did they make CA or NY nearly swing red? Miss me with that. In before someone brings up a state and counts RFK votes like they’d have gone to Kamala.

Third party voting can be strategic and no more a waste than voting blue in a deep red state.

I think it’s also clear that you’re not going to “reform” capitalism by voting in liberals

If it is about US, then first past the post system is mathematically proven to always drift into two parties. So vote for 3rd party is essentially throwing your vote out.

This is why now the political make up is essentially Republicans vs Democrats (which is the party for everyone else)

Want too have choice? Concentrate on local elections to change state laws to use Ranked Choice Voting. That voting system would give a chance to 3rd parties.
