Trump’s Anti-Somali Bigotry Behind Physical Attack on U.S. Representative

January 30, 2026

The congresswoman did not cower behind the lectern. She instinctively lunged at her attacker with defiance and a raised fist. The shock from the assault notwithstanding, she quickly composed herself and continued her talk, brushing aside efforts by her staff and security who tried to persuade her to retreat.

“I’m built that way,” Omar said calmly as she left the community room at Urban League Twin Cities after her event, reminding a CNN reporter that she was a survivor of war.

Faced with such racist bullying, Omar showed the value of dignity and determination. All those resisting the Trump-inspired anti-immigrant terror can learn from her conduct. She stood tall and channeled her ire into her message.

The reason maga and Republicans hammer her (and AOC) isn’t really because they’re brown or women.

It’s because in the immediate moments after this weird attack happened, she took wind up steps and had her hands up. She didn’t pause till she saw security about to tackle him from behind.

That is the type of politicians we need right now. We need people who have that fight in them. You can’t fake it, you can’t teach it, it’s just human variation and right now we need fighters in power because we’re in a fight whether we like it or not.

They’re following the same intimidation strategies the KKK used in reconstructionist, intimidate politicians that oppose them into resigning thru legal threats or violence.

Back then everyone resigned because they put personal safety over everyone else’s. And it worked out fucking horribly for everyone. So let’s try not be ignorant and repeat the same mistakes this time.
