It’s where American individualism collides with the reality that only collective resistance is effective. “You first” is each person realizing that individual resistance will get them killed. Because the USA is so steeped in the myth of the individual fighting evil singlehandedly with a gun, and in the “collectivism = communism = bad” propaganda, it’s taking time for the population to adjust to reality and organize.
