It’s hard to tell what was direction and what was Avery Brooks’ bizarre delivery. Every so often he’ll put a weird emphasis on some word or make a face like he’s lost it.
Did you watch any of the documentaries? I think Avery is just an odd duck. Great actor but a little weird. That’s why i love him so much.
I once read a comment on reddit that was like (paraphrased because i refuse to go back to the shithole): Kirk is a classic rock song.
Picard is a classical symphony.
Janeway is an 80s pop song.
Sisko is a crazy polyrhythmic jazz song with lots of dissonance.I haven’t seen anything about him outside of just watching DS9, but I believe it!

He’s all over the place! He’ll be all gravitas for one line and a Kubrick stare the next. It’s so difficult to watch. Seems to be improving after s1 though
I don’t recall which episode it is, but there’s a line that gets repeated in our house a lot from a scene where Sisko recounts seeing a woman, saying “…and she was wearing RED” in this weirdly feral tone.

Aw I know this is controversial but I actually love his choices most of the time.
The actor is a total kook
I still need to see some DS9 at some point.
I like it, but it’s not one that I heavily rewatch like TOS and TNG.
