That doesn’t say anything about being what helped us move forward and is not opposing the OP, only that humans did in fact also eat meat. When food is scarce, it’s obviously benefitial to diversify your source of calories. But hunting requires way more energy and risk than farming and gathering.

Haven’t read these particular articles, but AFAIK the opportunistic omnivore diet model makes perfect sense across large stretches and locality of Genus Homo’s history, but a meat-intensive diet plus the use of fire also make sense as a species accelerant, so to speak. So… pourquoi pas les deux?

Also, and maybe just pedantically, I wish the silly “caveman” usage would just drop. Because far as I know, there never was any significant ‘caveman’ stage to Homo’s history, other than occasional situations in which our relatives and ancestors actually did live in a few cave complexes, here and there around the world… but mainly in Africa IIRC.

I think I remember watching this one with my dad (or at least being around when my dad watched it) on TV when I was really young.

          Thank you for this.

Haha yes, I watched that a year or two ago and found it pretty enjoyable. Certainly a nice accomplishment to make a modern, feature-length film almost entirely without dialogue(!)

But also very cool IMO to make a film featuring almost exclusively our closest relatives, i.e. H. neanderthalensis! Any thoughts on it, yourself?

Btw, not sure if you’re familiar with graphic novelist Jeff Smith of Bone fame, but one of his recent projects was to create a graphic novel exploring the intermix of various Homo species, not unlike Firestarter. I’d previously posted some samples to the evil empire, but I could probably port them over to the FV if anyone’s interested…

Why do you state it’s a contrary view? It’s not like OP’s article title is “The myth of the omnivore caveman”.

Unit 731 and the Stanford prison experiment helped us advance in our understanding of physiology and psychology, so what?
