It’s really sad to see SimpleX goes the shitcoin route to try and fund their project, Ethereum is not ethical as I briefly explained in this post

Now is a perfect opportunity to fork the project with I2P and add Monero as the payment option both for people to transact and fund the developers and I2P operators

[Blockchain] technology is neutral. People make it good or bad.

Sure, maybe. But you’re making it clear you’re in the bad camp too when you’re announcing this with NFTs.

Why do NFTs make then inherently bad? AFAIK they are not trying to pivot into selling monkey pictures but rather selling prepaid phone cards to cover server costs for large communities. Why is this bad?

      • The problem is that they’re basing their new infrastructure on a token that they control, that is also based on a blockchain that isn’t neutral as they claim (Ethereum was 70% pre-mined by it’s developers, how is that neutral!)

also NFTs aren’t even Crypto in my view, they never took off, they never gained momentum, no one looked at them… well… some NPCs did… whenever someone mentions NFT just know they’re trying to sell you something that they can make out of thin air, that’s not how value works…

          Sounds like stocks 🤔

now is the time to add monero

No, fuck that, no crypto integration. I want a basic simple fucking messenger that’s open source, let’s you own your own data without owning the server, allows for new easy anonymous identities, and can be handed to your grandma.

SimpleX was the only thing that fulfilled this. This aggression will not stand, man. Like that was the one thing that ticked the boxes.

There was some comment I read a month or two ago about not trusting it because it was VC funded. I knew they where right, but it was nice while it lasted…

Its a great way to buy vpns/seedboxes/burner VoIP lines/anon SMS 2factor servcies/hosting/hrt/drugs and take anon donations.

Its not how I’m going to pay my roommate to get her back for a bill or something. Especially when its already attached to another transaction that’s related to me or my close friends by whatever card they used to pay the bill.

Even if I did, I could send them a qr or text of a wallet RX address. Copy/Paste already exists. You don’t need to integrate crypto into it.

I mean you cannot fit Monero in the same bucket as the rest of the cryptocurrencies. No foundation, no company, no VCs, no pre-mined, CPU-based PoW, no major on/off ramp accepting it but still a strong currency with real usage outside speculation made by a community of builders. Can be life saving for some high risks profiles and honestly is the complete opposite of the cryptocurrency market, I’m thankful it exists.

Not really. I think what you’re on about (not in the british cunty sense), is that they’re part of a venture capitalist company, or got bought up by them and are thus for-profit. Such practices are, in reality, often connected to right-wing politics. Big tech being the best example.

Honestly I don’t think it’s too bad. Compensating server operators will expand the network. It’s all a matter of what can be done with the coin a.k.a what will give it value.

Wait a tick. I thought Simplex was the gods gift messenger to the masses? I mean we just did a big dust up about it a couple weeks ago. People were banned, feelings were hurt.

It was and has been thus far. Has a lot of great features, but this might be a good reason to fork the project.

i thought simplex was completely decentralized p2p. can’t it simply be forked?

Forking isnt a solution, unless you are committed to patching all future security vulnerabilities and adding feature updates on you own. Cryptography is complicated, designing a secure messenger is very complicated. Forking isnt a magic bullet.

The interesting thing about simplex is that (IIRC) the chat protocol is unencrypted and sits atop an encrypted transport protocol call SMP.

That is to say the encryption is divorced from the rest of the stack, and a lot of the hardwork of making it is done.

Of course its going to need lots of maintenance, but the open source community has proven itself capable of maintaining secure implementations of encryption alogrythms.

This is especially true if we continue to take upstream upgrades from SimpleX and strip the crypto VC bullshit out of the codebase.

As long as they don’t sell that to people as “easy money multiplier, invest you’ll become rich in weeks” I’m okay. Won’t buy though
