The replacement that Netflix has chosen for lead actor Henry Cavill is utterly lacking in his predecessor’s likability. The ex-Neighbours actor is a scowling lunk who brings a wildly uneven vibe to this fantasy drama

    Oh.

I haven’t watched this since season 1, and I guess I know where to stop now. Cavill carried the first season.

The tone remains wildly uneven, lurching as it does between steeple-fingered Game of Thrones-y glumness and those early-90s Saturday afternoon series in which an uncommunicative hunk wanders between small communities, rescuing imperilled innocents from baddies while learning about the true meaning of friendship.

This is a pretty good summary of why I never really liked this show. It really struggled to pick a lane and felt like a cross between The Mandalorian and Amazon’s The Wheel of Time adaptation. I’d enjoy one of Geralt’s mini adventures but then the show would take me away from that and try to be some big epic with a massive cast. Before it could really build out that world and immerse me in the drama of it, we’d be back to some very silly, inconsequential sequence that completely killed all momentum in the season. It was just an annoying show to watch.

i can’t put my finger on it but something about the cinematography really bugs me. like it’s way too bright and clear which makes it feel like a soap opera or something to me.

This show was such a waste. My dissapointment can only match my initial excitement for it. Or the amount of copium I ingested after first season.

I guess a proper Witcher adaptation can only exist in my dreams. I wish Europe could do a proper adaptation with the Slavic influences intact.
