📍The countries that voted against were:
- ❌🇦🇷Argentina
- ❌🇭🇺Hungary
- ❌🇮🇱Israel
- ❌🇲🇰North Macedonia
- ❌🇵🇾Paraguay
- ❌🇺🇦Ukraine
- ❌🇺🇸United States
The resolution, adopted for the 33rd consecutive year, “once again urges the states that have applied and continue to apply such laws and measures to take the necessary steps to repeal or invalidate them as soon as possible.”
- UN showing just how genius it is to have a system where one country can never leave the one body that makes legally binding solutions, and can always just veto anything you put on the table lol - If it’s not legally binding it’s just a suggestion like the Paris Accords lmao god this world fucking sucks
- Lmao the reddit belt with the abstentions.
- It’s always the same damn countries.
- 165 to 7 - That means it passed, right? Because democracy?
- what the hell, paraguay? this is the only thing for you to exist? to lick gringo boots?
- I mean yeah the usual suspects here. This vote happens every year and it’s always Amerikkka and the ZioniSSt Entity voting no. I need to check in on what’s up in Paraguay and Macedonia though, I think those are new. The only other thing I know about Paraguay is they’re one of the very few countries that don’t acknowledge the PRC, instead recognizing Taiwan as the ROC. - Actually as far as I know, all these votes are new except the typical US and Israel. Someone can correct me though - Macedonia has been abstaining before, everything else is new

- the usual suspects

- IMF enslavement tier list.
- They got 165 votes but lost to one country the United States. Ultimately, people don’t see a problem with that. If I were Cuban, I wouldn’t even bother going to the UN to do that pointless shit, bro. - Even though the UN is useless for issues like this, it helps for agitation. Before every voting session, every solidarity organization in their respective country mobilizes to talk about the illegal blockade of the US. - The more people talk about the blockade, the stronger the solidarity which leads to incredible material actions like this one reported by Granma: - In rural electrification, a donation of 5,000 photovoltaic systems was completed. Other programs include a European Union program for six mountain communities and the Ciénaga de Zapata, and a Canadian donation for 502 systems in Holguín.
 - I just watched a video saying the resolution was passed. Will this actually make any change to the embargo at all? - this is a general assembly resolution, which means that it is non-binding. the only binding resolutions are passed in the security council, where US has a veto (this is where the Israel-Palestine related resolutions have been failing to pass for the past two years if you recall). this exact general assembly resolution has passed for 33 times now.
- Sadly no because it doesn’t solve the fundamental issue which is the US viciousness. The UN has proven incapable and useless in stopping the US. - If you are interested in specific examples on how the blockade currently hurts, I have the following posts:

- I wonder if the countries that didn’t vote are specifically using it as a coy abstention, or were they absent for other votes?
- Don’t know too much about Cuban foreign relations, but are there any surprises on this list? - Yes, lots of them. This was the result from the past year’s voting: - Now, due to the US pressure, lots of bootlickers changed their vote to abstention and the most cynical of the bunch voted against. - Most likely fears of getting sanctioned by Trump.
- Ugh, hopefully this is just the flailing of a dying empire rather than anything more systemic. The US knows that as its grip on the global economy weakens, so does the efficacy of its embargo.

- I get the others but why North Macedonia and Paraguay? What’s going on with them that they sided with the Empire? - North Macedonia aspires to join NATO and has a very right-wing and anti-communist government. They’ve been wanting to buy weapons from the US for some time now too. Small countries usually will take advantage of these votes to signal the US that they want to get closer relations. Essentially good ol’ boot licking - Odd to try and get closer to the empire now as it enters decline. - Either they’re not paying attention, are overconfident in the US’ position, have been totally captured by Langley, or are hoping the US will be desperate enough for allies they’ll bother to pay attention. - Regardless this doesn’t seem like a well thought out strategy. USA is old news now. - The bourgeoisie of Macedonia don’t think that far ahead, much like the bourgeoisie anywhere else. They would rather go down with the US than have any sort of worker empowerment
- Like other countries in the area, relations eith the US are an ideological position probably.

- From what little I know of Paraguay they have a history of strange right wing populist politics. Apart from that I imagine they are jumping on Argentina’s bandwagon.
- I feel the same, what does Paraguay and North Macedonia have against Cuba?
