When I started using a sleep tracking app, I discovered that those nights I thought I was tossing and turning for 8 hours, I was actually sleeping about half the time. It’s weird how sleep perception works. If you asked me at the time, I would have sworn on my mother’s grave I had not slept a wink.
It’s also great to be able to see how quickly you fall asleep when it feels like fooooreeeever.
Mythbusters FTW!
I can’t find this. Googling this just pulls up a bunch of Tumblr posts like this. Does anyone have an episode number?
I see one about sleep deprivation and naps, but that’s not this
Season 11, episode 2. It was a part of a collab with the Deadliest Catch. They tested whether it was better to work a 30-hour shift without any sleep, or get power naps.
So yeah, the sleep deprivation thing. And yeah, any amount of laying down will be better than nothing. That’s not quite the same thing as what’s being stated here, but whatever. If it helps people, I suppose.
My experience is the post is correct. Sometimes I lie down for a quick nap, know I didn’t sleep and yet feel refreshed.
It does match my experience tbh. It’s always been taking me a long time to fall asleep (like 20-60 minutes), and occasionally it goes into multiple hours. There’s always a significant difference in how tired I am between when that happens and actually going to bed the same amount of hours later.
Can’t help but spiral with my eyes closed…
I pick a country at random then try to imagine world domination scenarios branching from that country.
I barely finish annexing my neighbours before I’m fast asleep! _
whenever i start doing that i just get up and kinda pretend that i’m starting my day. maybe take a shower and fridge-prep a meal that i won’t be hungry for. eventually something in my brain decides that i stand NO chance of going another day without rest, and suddenly laying back down sounds a lot more appealing.
it DOES waste at least a solid hour, but if you can direct yourself towards productive tasks it’s really a net positive at the end of the day
I can confirm; when i just lay down for a while with my eyes closed and not moving, i really do feel refreshed afterwards.
