The Goodfellas star made the comment in response to co-host Jonathan Capehart asking him about his claim, a moment earlier on the show, that Trump will not leave the White House in 2028. Capehart said he was on the same “wavelength” as De Niro and agreed with him, before the actor compared Miller to Joseph Goebbels, the high-ranking Nazi leader and chief propagandist for Adolf Hitler.

“No way! We see it we see it we see it all the time — he will not want to leave. He set it up with, I guess he’s the Goebbels of the cabinet, Stephen Miller. He’s a Nazi,” De Niro said. “Yes, he is, and he should be ashamed of himself!”

Fuck no. Stop listening to actors. DeNiro loves RFK JR and is a rabid antivaxer. He wants to blame vaccines for autism in his son who he had in his 60s and he’s still having kids in his 80s.

Absolutely fucking not. May I remind you that famous people sticking their unqualified noses into politics is where Trump came from?!

Who needs to speaking out are mayors, legislators, judges, heads of big businesses and governmental agencies, heads of unions, etc.

I get it, you see a person on your screen saying something you agree with, and they have a face that you recognize from other times you’ve seen them on a screen. So you automatically assume they must be worth listening to. They aren’t. They are famous for being actors. That’s it. They aren’t politically savvy, or have some deep insight into the interworkings of our governmental system. Getting political talking points from them is like asking the guy behind the deli counter for medical advice.

Agreed. The only thing that matters about what anyone says, no matter who it is, is whether the statement is true.

If we discourage anyone from sharing the truth at any time, in any place, then we are only hurting our cause.

Plus being famous is like having a megaphone. Rejecting De Niro’s help here is like bringing a strongly-worded letter to a megaphone fight.

I hate the Nazis as much as the next guy, but comparing this bald psycho-bizarro creep-ball Stephen Miller to Goebbels is giving too much credit to Stephen Miller. He’s a properly talentless loser who happens to have any sort of importance by riding the coat-tails of the orange utan, while Goebbels actually had charisma and talent for propaganda.

This is long but well worth a watch if you want to know everything there is to know about baldie-Stevie:

I idon’t think he’s talking about the quality of stephen miller’s naziying, he’s saying that’s his role and goals. He should be called out by everyone as a nazi trying to build a nazi state.

all of the highest nazis were incompetent psychos… their only qualification was loyalty.
the nazis achieved amazing things because they commanded the state of germany… the actual heads were the biggest losers ever.

The Nazis equivalent of Stephen Miller is Himmler. Goebbels was in charge of Propaganda, Himmler was in charge of the Final Solution.

There really isn’t a member of the Trump administration who is the equivalent of Goebbels yet, but I’ve been referring to Stephen Miller as PeeWee Himmler since the first Trump administration.

Putin and Bannon fit that description.

but I’ve been referring to Stephen Miller as PeeWee Himmler since the first Trump administration.

      That’s perfectly hilarious.

I’ve thought of Bannon as the MAGA Goebbels, but he isn’t a very good fit. Goebbels actually controlled the propaganda machine, and while there is the remarkable and highly effective Conservative Propaganda Machine, it is fairly decentralized, with no single person in charge. Certainly it isn’t directly operated by the Trump administration.

The closest might actually be Rupert Murdoch, but he doesn’t work for the administration, and his propaganda isn’t specifically American.

I don’t think we have a Goebbels yet, but they may emerge when MAGA takes full control of the American media, and issues guidelines for productions.

Possible, but Goebbels tightly controlled the entire media, and we aren’t there yet.

I have no doubt that they believe that the time will come when they will take full control of all media, and approve all productions, and someone will be in charge of that. The Ellisons just took control of Paramount/CBS, so they might eventually be candidates.

I’m not sure its possible to control media to the degree it was back then. Far easier to broadcast now.

They already do. Oligarchs/ Corporations control all the networks, most TV stations, most radio stations, most newspapers, many cable news outlets, etc.

I’ve always loved De Niro. His performance in Raging Bull completely blew me away when I first saw it. All of his contributions with Scorsese have been excellent though. I’m glad to know he’s got the right idea with politics, I hate seeing celebrities I like turn out to be MAGAts.

The one that disappointed me the most when I found out is Clint Eastwood: he’s quite the intolerant piece of shit Republican, and that predates Trump and even Dubya. I like his acting, but the man is despicable and has always been.

Who cares. Do you care about the political opinions of your plumber? No, you just care that the shit goes down when you flush.

People think they know someone by watching them act, then for some reason, they listen to them about opinions when most actors are incredibly poorly educated because they learned in their teens they could just get away with how they look.

Normally I don’t care. But with MAGA, it’s different: if I found out he’s a MAGAt, I’ll call someone else. I don’t give my business to fascists, fascist sympathizers or morons who are too dumb not to vote fascist. I can’t stand fascists and I can’t stand those who enable them.

Having said that, Eastwood isn’t MAGA. He’s just a slightly nauseating person. That won’t prevent me from enjoying the movies he played in.

Of all the shit that’s come out of this administration one of the few things I’ve enjoyed is seeing how vocal DeNiro has become. I never really paid him much mind but hes becoming a fave of mine. I fucking love that he’s openly calling out the administration for who they are and what they are doing.
