Everyone wants a meritocracy, but its just as much of a fantasy as a utopia. We can guess at what the end outcomes of a meritocracy would look like, and the outcomes we currently see are nowhere near it. In a meritocracy people’s wealth should match how hard they work. No one is working a billion times harder than the average. I’m in favor of wealth redistribution to better match what a meritocracy should look like, and that would mean no more billionaires. There should be a maximum ratio of wealth inequality where everyone at the top who would increase that ratio gets taxed at an amount to keep them within that ratio. Those taxes could be used to raise up those at the bottom which would allow those at the top to make a little bit more.
