At the risk of getting put on horse-watch, I’m going to strongly agree with you about reddit-logo

or if they’re a redditor they start talking about Muslims

I lurked on /r/atheism a long time ago while grappling with the fallout from my faith shattering, and what I concluded was that that crowd of “new atheists” were racist as hell. If I talked about not being muslim anymore because I wanted God to actually exercise power to make the world better, and since that doesn’t happen I can’t believe in anything supernatural anymore: Upvotes galore, sympathetic comments, people commiserating and trying to help me cope. If I said that bombing Muslims because you think their governments are too theocratic / autocratic is a horrible way to “liberate” anyone, and anyway people didn’t need to be “liberated” by force, they just needed to be socially free to choose their beliefs and lifestyles (and, when free to choose, most people would remain Muslim because it’s not actually bad to be religious, and you can be gay and trans and progressive and still be religious): Downvoted to hell and people dogpiling me and even citing the Quran out of context to tell me, someone raised in Islam, that I didn’t know shit about it. If I pointed out that it’s absolutely ridiculous for a mostly white mostly western userbase to talk so much shit about Islam at all when evangelical christianity is the thing that’s actually threatening people’s civil liberties: “terrorism”, “migrants invading europe and making the crime rate skyrocket” (gee, why would a bunch of refugees suddenly show up? Did western foreign policy have anything to do with that?), and even worse things I don’t want to retype out because it’s so hateful.

The heel turn that Richard Dawkins took was not a surprise. That motherfucker ended up deciding he was a secular christian because he was so bothered by seeing Muslim women wearing clothes.

Redditors as a group seem to just hate Muslims because redditors are western chauvinists. That’s the real reason they don’t complain about isntrael committing a livestreamed holocaust on our western goverenments’ dime. They like seeing people being murdered, as long as they’re the right religion.

I remember in the early 2010s when Atheism+ was popping up and I immediately noped out because they were obviously racist.

The heel turn Richard Dawkins took was not a surprise.

He always made me uncomfortable with how he had a double standard regarding Islam vs. the other Abrahamic religions. Like Christianity argues slaves should just enjoy being slaves and was used to justify the institution in the US. Islam requires its practitioners dress modestly which is somehow worse than the daily torture and abuse suffered by millions of people who were abducted from their homes and forced to live in brutal conditions like cattle? Fuck off with that shit lmao

Sorry but this is funny to me. A lot of the people they hate on worry about bombings even the ones like qatar who are on good terms. They worry about not getting to show off their glorious, undercooked hotdog looking bodies at a nude beach because of rules from said group…when christian theocracy is infinitely closer to making their fears come true.

I’ve been an atheist since my early-mid teens and will continue to consider myself such, but God damn, I feel less and less like the label actually applies to me when I think about the kind of people who are often associated with the term.

Facts. There is so much great replacement talk on atheist groups its crazy. Racist jokes galore. Then they will turn to “cultural christian” on a whim to “defend the west”. The white feminist there just wanna dump on poc men, warhawks brag about kids they killed, the concerned citizens go on about how common the name muhammad is. They keep going on about muslims taking over their country like reverse colonialism or religious conquest but know fuck all about actual colomialism because thats not at all how it works.

go on about how common the name muhammad is.

Unlike you, us westerners don’t use religious names (except for Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Sarah, Rebecca, Abraham, Paul, Peter, Mary, Simon, Ruth, Joseph, Isaac, James, Martha, Jacob, Alex, Levi, Nathaniel, Raphael, Adam, Eve, Aaron, Ava, Caleb, Chloe, Daniel, Elizabeth, Ezekiel, Jason, David, Elon, Elijah, Toby, Ethan, Gabriel, Herman, Immanuel, Jesse, Jesus, Jonah, Josh, Tim, Julia, Leah, Lois, Malcolm, Phoebe, Phil, Tyler, Samuel, Seth, Tara, Jared, Thomas, and Zach). We use made-up rando shit like Nevaeh and Kethanaghan.
