From To kill a nation: the attack on Yugoslavia by Michael Parenti

Visiting Belgrade after the bombings of 1999, I saw graffiti all over the city denouncing NATO, the United States, and Bill Clinton in the most bitter terms. “NATO” was repeatedly represented with the “N” in the form of a swastika. More than once I saw “Free Texas” sprayed across walls. As one citizen explained, Texas is heavily populated by Mexicans or persons of Mexican descent, many of whom suffer more serious cultural discrimination and economic adversity than did Kosovo Albanians. Should not Yugoslavia and other nations do whatever they can to make Texas into a separate polity for oppressed Mexicans? The same logic applied to the “Free Corsica” graffiti sprayed across the French cultural center, gutted during the NATO bombings, along with the US and British cultural centers, by outraged Yugoslavs.

How would you make a FREE TEXAS meme? Something that can be transposed into different settings. Is there any recognizable color revolution template where FREE TEXAS would fit?

Idk about making something new, but some existing formats would work well.

Galaxy brain: start with Texas should secede, return TX to Mexico, create a new country for oppressed Mexicans

That one with the person in the corner of a party or whatever “they don’t know my ‘FREE TEXAS’ bumper sticker is an ironic reference to the bombing of Yugoslavia and not an endorsement of the Texas nationalist movement”

Edit: just an image of the graffiti with

Nato: we must intervene and protect oppressed people

Belgrade, 1999: cool let’s start with Texas

lol those are good. I might be taking it too seriously but FREE TEXAS is not ironic, I was just mad Elon Musk does shit like canvas for AfD and go to the UK to try to get UK citizens to dissolve parliament.

Ironic as in the opposite of what is expected, not the opposite of the literal meaning. Most people in the US are going to think FREE TEXAS is a rightwing position because the secessionist movement that gets attention is
