Because the best way to negotiate with Trump is to roll over and let him know that he can do whatever he wants to you.
Aren’t countertariffs only detrimental to us, if they don’t have the effect of the US taking down their tariffs?
Not really, it’s a way to shift the consumers to buy products from elsewhere instead of US. It’s how you cut off the reliance of an unreliable trade “partner”
Right, assuming there’s an alternate source. When there is, absolutely.
I mean China exists last I checked, and they’ve said they would like to do more trade with Canada. Instead, Carney keeps trying to fight a tariff war with China while bending over for the US.
Well, China-bad and all that, so for now we ain’t doing that. If the material conditions worsen enough, public sentiment would change and I suspect he’ll pivot. We’ll see.
