Once a democrat heavy state does it, it will be ser in stone. Everyone must do it, there will be no turning back. I can’t say it shouldn’t be done, but all this blatant gerrymandering is one more piece into the destruction of our democracy. Of course I know gerrymandering is not new, and its not a big piece.

Going to get alot of angry Californians though. Norcal and IE are red heavy, this will make them boil even more…thats just annoying because they pester local politics and spam local roads and stores with thier yapping. (I was typing some of the recent embezaling by our mayor that has gone silently but found it was too much to put here, but yeah it goes but everytime newsom does something there are billborads all around bemoaning, and so so so many trump and maga flags)

Red states already do this, the supreme court has already ruled that it can’t review gerrymandering cases, newsome isn’t doing this to get a win, California is likely to elect democrats with or without the new maps, he is doing this to highlight how messed up it is that this is allowed.

It’s funny reading this exact comment but in the reverse in conservative spaces. This is game theory in action.

Perhaps. They say the first step of getting out a of a hole is stop digging but we’re still digging our grave, might be too deep to get out of.

Every angry CA person eventually moves to a place like Idaho or Texas. This will just accelerate the departure of people who add nothing to the culture.

How many seats can the Democrats hope to pick up from this with 43 of 52 seats already? There was talk of a six seat pickup in TX

They’re planning to match the TX seat change. Ive seen 5 seat shift maps, but its entirely possible to do an all-D map

I wouldn’t mind district 1 being flipped, I’m tired of emails saying things like “these evil people want to stop people from overdosing on drugs, but I’ll fight to stop them!”

Weirdest civil war ever but I’m here for it.

I hope Dems win, and then I hope we can all stop being idiots and elect real liberals.

Oh just wait, this has been spelled out pretty clearly in the opening season of “It Could Happen Here”- all the ingredients are in place, it’s just going to take someone who knows the recipe and can bake that cake- that’s going to cause some serious strife. California has a lot of food production and one motivated group doing a large highway bombing would cause some serious issues.

If necessary, temporary highway repairs could be done overnight. Source: dude with 25 years in the army corp of engineers

California resident here. I got sent some packet home telling me to vote against this. I should take a picture and research which mf is passing this out under the guise of “protecting democracy”.

Yeah, I’m aware of several mailers going out to try and protect the ability of Texas Republicans to gerrymander lasting Republican control of the House

The flyer I got says it was paid for by “Protect Voters First, sponsored by Hold Politicians Accountable” and that the top funder was Republican Charles T. Munger, Jr. He’s the son of Warren Buffett’s (late) billionaire right-hand man, and he was one of the top donors for the 2008 prop 11 which created the California citizens’ redistricting commission for the state legislative districts. He was also the principal behind 2010 prop 20 which made the commission also be in charge of California’s federal congressional districts.

So he’s understandably mad that Gavin Newsom is trying to override everything to mess with Texas.

I gotta think Pritzger fires this up next. Not sure what the Illinois law says for this though.
