All I need. All I want. Unfortunately all the states I’ve lived in are authoritarian shitholes where I’m not allowed to drive one.
I can drive a motorcycle. That goes over 200mph. But I can’t own a passenger vehicle that will run traffic speed. For “safety”. More like the makers of our giant piles of overpriced and overly complicated garbage can’t compete.
It’s crazy how much of America’s self-image revolves around notions of “Freedom” when it’s one of the most oppressive places in the developed world.
Even the stuff you do have supposed guaranteed constitutional freedoms for, come with such heavy caveats that they never actually play out that way in practice.
Unfortunately propaganda works. People really think they’re free here. And will get incredibly earth-shatteringly unreasonably fuck-ass mad if you try to pull the wool off their eyes.
I want one so bad, I adore Kei cars 🥹
I’ve owned one for about 1.5 years now. Generally pretty alright. Apparently not getting one with turbo was a mistake since it can struggle with multiple people on the expressway or anywhere rather hilly (which people with turbo don’t seem to experience); doubly so if trying to use the aircon in the 30+ temps with high humidity. It also feels rather unstable in winds, particularly at expressway speeds. That said, I’m generally pleased.
Kei cars are great, kei trucks are great. I wish it was easier to get them in the United States. Im living in Japan right now, and I love my little box car, the AC works great and its cheap on gas.
Yep, I have a long commute and get about 20 km/liter, which is 47 mpg. Gas is about 150 yen/liter right now (it was close to 180 until a few weeks ago), so if I had an inefficient car I’d be paying out the ass. It might be more expensive in cities but I live in the boonies.
Father use to have a truck that would fall in this category.
Tiny. Diesel. Once drove through water that went over the hood of the car. Had huge holes in the floor you could see the road through.
Loved it.
I have been a fan of these for years. I’m in the US and there are not many options. I’m also 6’6" so they don’t work for me anyway.
I want one of the Daihatsu Copen GR Sport so bad, but import fees and everything make it so unaffordable :(

I’ve been drooling over for years. It’s got a whopping 63 horsepower! WOO!
Brazil has a ton of kei trucks! Mainly because they’re very cheap and yet can carry a fuckton of weight. With the price you pay for a RAM 3500 here you can buy 5 Kia Bongos and carry 10x the amount of cargo.
They’re underpowered tin cans. They make half-decent farm trucks, but I wouldn’t trust them on the road. Your knees are the crumple zone.
Not to mention a good gator/SxS can haul more and is safer.
It’s bad because your surrounding is full of tank.
I think you meant stank? I’m not sure how to parse your comment.
In any case, the kei truck i personally have experience with, smells like cigarettes and sweaty fish, so yeah, that too. It’s been five years and it’s still embedded in everything. But that’s just the one truck.
