Pressure from famous people really shouldn’t be allowed to shape national policy, but man in this case I’m not complaining. Good on them.

There’s 44,999,700 non-famous people also urging the PM to end UK complicity in Gaza, but that’s not going to sell clicks

Literally hundreds of celebrities from entertainment to sports, and every organisation couldn’t shut up about ukraine.
They were sooo involved, concerned and activist.
Easy if it supports ‘our side’.
      Where are they now?
      Bunch of hypocrites.
It was the same with any war.
When it’s long over they were always against it.

There is a famous post from, I think the guitar player for rage against the machine where someone calls him out for being just another celebrity that shouldn’t have a political opinion. He claps back with his political Science degree. Celebrities are people. They can be extremely intelligent. Marketing/PR reps and talent managers are the clueless ones that have made celebrity synonymous with stupidity.

Some politicians are famous too. Politicians these days don’t seem smart and in America especially, we’re not electing the smartest bunch. We actually elected a reality TV star. Famous people have a platform and they see what we see also.

I’ve heard of one of these people, but only because of a single youtube video. The talkshow host therein mentioned something about Cumberbatch having two fan-groups that somehow hate each other. No idea who the other two are. Dua Lipa sounds like “Dual Lips”, so I’m guessing Only Fans or porn star.

Among the famous people to put their names to the letter are singers Dua Lipa, Annie Lennox, Paloma Faith, Massive Attack and Primal Scream.

Sooo, she’s a singer. Must be rap or something. Now I have to check it out.

You’re in a UK thread and you’ve never heard of Gary Lineker?

Sounds like you don’t consume any media or you have a TBI.

And you’re weirdly expressing pride at your own ignorance.

      What an odd fucking comment.

This person frequently asks questions and turns around with one loosely-relevant source backing their own perspective.

Whether intentional or not, it’s classic engagement farming. The “Yes, and?” responses certainly don’t help.

Just don’t feed the troll lol

A strong reaction for a simple comment. Did me discovering somebody you like offend you or something?

        No need to feel insecure.

Mine was actually a mid-reaction for an intellectually dishonest comment. You didn’t discover anyone, you pretended to, so you come across as non-mainstream.

I don’t mind feeling insecure. I wear it on my sleeve.

You’re too young to realise how hackneyed and stale the “I’ve never heard of… [celebrity you’ve definitely heard of]” is. Nobody cares who you’ve heard of.

          Google exists.

If you’ve not heard of these people, it’s likely a cultural difference. They’re definitely all well known people. Dua Lipa is one of the most popular pop stars in the UK and USA (and presumably worldwide) , Gary Lineker is a former football player, turned sports commentator, and Benedict Cumberbatch is an A-List actor.

It seems like they have fans here, judging by the downvotes.

Definitely a cultural difference. Dua Lipa sounds alright. A few songs have now been added to the library. Cinema - haven’t been in a while and most films I watch are somewhat randomly picked from whichever streaming site I’m on. Cumberbatch doesn’t seem to be in the stuff I stumble upon. Football… yeah, can only name Maradona, Bellingham, Ronaldo, and Messi.
I just generally don’t pay attention to names.
