    Let me give some context here: after half a century of demonization since Khrushchev’s XX Congress, Stalin had been fully rehabilitated by 2008 under Putin - EXCEPT for the bas-relief (removed in 1966) in the Taganskaya Station on the Circle Line! It only took another 17 years.

    Now that the symbolic restoration is complete, will we see his ideas returning? I’m not so sure about that. Still too many libs in Russia.

        Not denying his accomplishments, but like, the contrast is that modern Russia is not doing any of that. Living conditions are slowly getting eroded by neoliberalism and have been for years. We’re experiencing a housing crisis, wage stagnation, degradation of the social healthcare system, etc etc

        And Stalin is not being rehabilitated/“brought back” for the good parts, but rather because he tightened the screws against dissidents, foreigners (incl rootless cosmopolitans), queers, and other undesirables. As a rootless cosmopolitan myself I rather dislike those parts of his legacy and don’t want them keep happening

      Stalin led a mass movement that destroyed the rule of the Ukrainian kulaks that had maintained their power and wealth through antisemitic violence, and then did the same thing to the nazis and their collaborators. He’s an all time great when it comes to killing rightwingers. Only god knows how many jews, romani, and slavs he saved. Of course, liberals hate him. Maybe Stalin should have whined, written terse letters, and been a good rule follower while millions were murdered in order to enrich a few assholes.
