Greenblatt: "I’m thinking about the New York Times doing a gauzy profile a few weeks ago of this gamer, Hasan Piker, who regularly employs awful genocidal rhetoric against Jewish people and the Jewish State. Extremists should not be empowered. People who spout prejudice should not be platformed. This is a moment when we need to look ourselves in the mirror and say ‘We’ve got to stop this because the consequences are deadly’. "

it’s nearly impossible for defamation lawsuits to do anything here even when they’re not about state interests
That generally true due to the ambiguous nature of US libel laws, but Greenblatt literally ticked off all the boxes that can lead you to win a defamation case in the US; false statement, publication to a third party, and the spoken stated intention to harm an individual’s reputation
It won’t matter
This damned state picked it’s side in this genocide many years ago
Even just boycotting Israeli items is a crime in most states. We’re past the point where factual information makes a difference
He could sue and possibly even win but it would be a 5 year lawsuit and his opponents have infinite money. It’s a substantial personal sacrifice to go after imperialist goons via the legal system.
I can guarantee there are lawyers willing to do pro-bono work on this. The discovery alone would be worth it
If I were a hungry, new lawyer and I needed to make a name for myself I’d want to take the case. I’d get the most libel-looking libel case ever and I get a bunch of publicity for winning. Then, because words don’t mean anything anymore, ghouls will be popping off all the time. Any time some ghoul says some shit they’d have to be scared of the specter of me. Therefore people would pay me a lot of money to do libel cases because I know how to win and win bigly.
well get on it kid. go go!
Maybe. It will be years and years of time. That’s a big layout to do pro bono.
He’s in a good position to make that sacrifice
