You can apply this argument to a lot of things, including rampant racism in other de facto parts of NATO.
And that is ignoring the fact that those beliefs are either nonsense (‘totalitarian’ is not a meaningful word, for example), or unfounded (like claiming that the USSR was somehow bad for the world).
