There was a youtube series where a youtuber’s mom (a teacher by profession) reads One Piece and she loved it, so it’s never too late! Reading is recommended over watching for an older audience when it comes to one piece always.
I fell off around the time Frankie was introduced.

You should use One Pace instead, it’s a community re-edit of One Piece that removes the padding/filler and non-canon material present in the Toei anime, they also redo the subtitles to be more accurate as well as remove censorship/bad localizations. They have a watch guide on their discord.

I considered watching One Piece but even if I do a cut together version like One Pace Im not gonna do it anytime Soon. … Might read it though one day. I watched like first 100 episodes or so as a Teenager ages ago.
One Piece is really good as a manga. Many of the arcs are self-contained and the pacing is really good. It’s only the Toei anime that ruined One Piece’s reputation by having such a terrible adaptation (some episodes go as low as half a chapter per episode, complete with redundant flashbacks and extended reaction shots).
There’s a definitive edition full color manga that uses the highest quality scans with redone translations. It covers the first two major sagas (23 manga volumes).
Yeah reading it seems MUCH more likely for me.
Its not that I’m not interested in watching it, it’s just that I don’t really want to spend a whole year of my life watching an anime (even if it’s a legitimately good one). Especially the fact that, as you said, the OG anime has a ton of filler and pacing issues makes me kind of nope out. Plus even the fast One Pace version would take me probably over half a year of watching…
Like, I’d rather watch 10 really good shows that are long, like JoJo or Adventure Time, than just One Piece in the same time.

Honestly I really enjoyed Wano too once it heated up they just dwell on it for sooooo long because obviously it’s a japanese show and they’re doing feudal Japan. Some of it drags though, there’s just such a long period of preparation for revolution.
I was ready to skip the Oden backstory, but like…it got so good with all the characters it dragged in, really glad I didn’t.
Oden’s backstory is worth it just for the power level they all have.
I wish they’d at least re do the early stuff like dragonball kai because jfc the art and pacing and filler are so 🤮

A friend begged me to just read the manga after the timeskip and I will always thank them for it. Are you at the wano arc? That seems to be when the anime finally improved in quality. I sincerely hope you arent learning that you choose the worst way to go about this the moment you got to the good part.
