Got in bed early, wearing my thermals to sleep and maintained warmth with a hot mug of chamomile tea. I should be able to stay warm enough.

Getting up tomorrow morning will be the challenge. There’s not much space in this current room to place my heater, which I normally had timed to turn on at 6:30am in the depths of winter to help reduce the inertia. We’ll see.

currently watching a mate midlife crisis himself into a destroyed marriage and redpilled victim spiral that will eventually make him a pathetic, sad old man. Sadly, his reaction to some of the best friends he doesn’t realise he has trying to pull him out of it means that sympathy is running thinner and thinner on the ground. It sucks.

Assuming youve already had a really blunt conversation about it? Dont think there is any room for subtlety in a situation like this.

Mrs B is lucky. Shes been prewarned of my mid life crisis ambitions. She’ll just come home to find a WRX parked in the driveway one day.

LOL, dont you worry she will ABSOLUTELY enjoy it. She would much prefer a fiesta ST or focus St but as I keep telling her ford stopped making those. I can foresee me stepping out the door at 10am to grab a coffee only to find shes left me the SUV and buggered off with my wrxy

I have just discovered Don McMillan’s stand up. It is gold. Engineer jokes by the bucketful.

Example : ebay - the internet = garage sale.

Example : a physicist, a biologist and a chemist go to spend a day at the beach. The biologist goes out snorkelling, gets entranced by the underwater plant and animal biota, forgets to check his air flow and drowns. The physicist sees that the biologist has not returned and goes out to check his last known location. He gets entranced by the pressure gradients, wave effects etc., forgets to check his air flow and drowns. The chemist looks around, can’t see either of them, gets out his notebook and writes “biologists and physicists are both soluble in water”.

Creative use of venn diagrams is a bonus. Love the guy.

Had the forethought to prewarm bed with the electric blanket. The bathroom is so cold the floor hurts if you’re just wearing socks. Cold usually doesn’t bother me this much, I think it’s just the sudden transition.

I road tested the Aldi peanut butter block of chocolate up against Whittaker’s and I was quite underwhelmed.

Aldi: It was very sweet. Gritty. It scratched the itch but I probably wouldn’t get it again because there are better ones in that range. 3.5 / 5 yum yums.

    Whittaker’s: Perfection 5/5 yum yums.

since I’ve been fairly negative heres a positive thing: Really impressed with Vodafone so far. Seems to work better along the dandenong corridor than telstra ever did.

Definitely too early to say anything and may be placebo effect but the L-theanine worked so well today that I decided to read more about it…

That has taken me down some rabbit holes about the COMT gene and interaction with neurotransmitters - I definitely know I should take it all with a grain of salt especially with no training in this shit, but a slow COMT gene would seemingly explain so much about why I’m so sensitive to stimulants and have to be careful about balancing them with other things so that I can use the energy and then relax at night (I haven’t been able to fall asleep without distractions for years). And why moderate exercise works much better for me than intense (not that I’ve done either in ages tbh).

I mean, the human body is so complex I do wonder if this is only a few steps removed from woo supplement science. But I’ll see if the L-theanine continues to work and maybe look at whether I can get tested in Australia (I’ve previously had pharmacogenetic testing done for various psychiatric drugs but not stimulants).

I’ve been drinking matcha for years, which has L-theanine. I’m starting to wonder if my matcha consumption is what’s leading to my sluggish cognitive tempo because of the caffeine. I’m also really sensitive to stimulants.

It would be interesting to see the results of the test!

So matcha can make me feel wired but in a different way to coffee. I do feel more organised but no matter what stimulant I’m on it’s hard to get that initial focus and not feel like I’m chewing away at nothing (and then invariably it takes me ages to fall asleep).

Matcha has some of the highest natural content of L-theanine but apparently to get the ideal ratio of L-theanine to caffeine you usually have to take a supplement.

What happens when your don’t take any matcha or stimulants at all? Though, the body gets habituated to it so it can take a long time to get through the withdrawal effects…

Same here! It’s cool to know I’m not alone with the way stimulants affect me. I’ve heard most people I know with ADHD say that meds have changed their life for the better and wonder why I didn’t have the same experience.

Without stimulants, I feel less anxious, but still super tired. But I haven’t given them a long enough break, afaik, to really notice the difference. How about you?

These Hokkien noodles I bought last week are horrible. They’re all soft and gluggy and not very nice.

The aldi ones are way better.

9 more days of this sadly :(

Credit card number got stolen over the weekend. CBA flagged a large purchase in the USA.

New cards are on the way, time to update the automatic payments again.

    Pain.

Hard rubbish bonus: as well as the corflute there was a large carpet mat in good condition. It should work well for the shoe area I’m planning in the garage.
