Second, companies in this increasingly autocratic and hostile US control every major digital platform that Europeans use to debate and share news, with the exception of TikTok, which is Chinese. Even Europe’s news organisations rely on Google and other US advertising technology companies for online revenue. Trump can humiliate or cripple the oligarchs who control these companies.

This person was being completely fair. European militarism is just a way to funnel more public money into the military industrial complex. The war hysteria is ridiculous.
The only sector where Europe always somehow “finds the money” is “defense”.
He was only stating facts

I just thought I’d let you know FuckyWucky (and @TankieTanuki@hexbear.net and @Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net), in case you found it amusing like I did, is that your comments along with most other replies in this thread were “removed by mod.” Sort of. See, what’s funny is that it looks like federation is a little bit buggy here because the comment removals didn’t work for most other instances. They’re still up and visible (just not on lemm.ee) despite the mod removing every single comment that had any sense of reality in it. lol
I also wanted to see if the cowardly mod of this empty, inactive comm tries to delete this too (I’m sure they will) and to test how this comment shows up when that happens. Because strangely my other comment is showing as “deleted by creator” on some instances, but I did not delete it, it was removed. All the hexbear comments still show up from most other instances though. So when the mod reads this, yes you Tad Lispy, know that your attempt to silence everyone who was speaking truth didn’t work. :)
lol, lmao.
cheers mate.
Just to make sure, you do realize that Russians invaded Ukraine and Ukrainians are fighting a defensive war, right?
euromaidan was a coup.
freikorps in ukraine were attacking the ethnic russians in the east for years before when your goldfish memory thinks the conflict started.
I’m aware of that framing.
Another narrative is that Russia finally came to the defense of the DPR and LPR breakaway states, which sought to escape their ethnic cleansing[1] at the hands of Kiev’s Maidan regime, after Putin mistakenly[2] [3] trusted the West to act in good faith towards seeking a peaceful resolution.
One could frame that war as having ended in 2023, when Russian troops took control of the Donbass. Since then, the troops have remained simply to defend the now-annexed territory from the invading Ukrainian forces, which are increasingly composed of untrained and unfit conscripts forced at gunpoint by fascist militias[4] into NATO’s proxy war.
Such is the power of narrative control.

I would recommend searching “site:reuters.com Ukraine nationalists” and set date before 2020, even western press were reporting very differently before then. It was only after Biden took office that the narrative shifted completely.
Europe should not rely on markets and private capital. Germany, for example can setup a state owned enterprise to build an alternative to Google. It wouldn’t have to worry about market profitability constraints like private corps.
well, i wouldn’t say pointless, but yeah, Europe needs a big independent internet media platform
Fediverse?
it would be the obvious choice, but for some reason it doesn’t take off. i remember, back when i used mastodon, there was a “MEP assistant” using it. The stuff they posted wasn’t interesting for me, but it was a good thing.
Then it’s important to identify the reason it doesn’t take off. Is it inherent to fediverse (in which case we would indeed need a new platform) or is it external. For example proprietary platforms have marketing and lobbying.
i have no idea how politicians got to proprietary platforms. maybe consultans recommended it.
from work, i know, the company i work at has limited budget for social media and chose three platforms by guesstimated number of users in our country. they use some software that posts on multiple platforms at once.
maybe: The social media company pays the politicians or acquiesces to removal of critical posts?
It’s probably the same for politicians. They are looking for widest reach. It’s not only about posting. To be effective, they need to moderate and engage with comments, which is harder to automate. Also, they might just not know about fediverse platforms (lack of marketing). In that case the solution would be to promote fediverse among users, European business, organizations and politicians.
