At first glance, I get some of the skepticism people have about it, but at the same time, if he was sitting there talking about being 99% sure about MKUltra and there was not concrete evidence for MKUltra, I’d probably have some skepticism for that too. And yet, the US is the kind of state that did MKUltra. And this is significantly less far-fetched, as far as I can tell. I think it just seems more extreme on the face of it because of the consequences; the plausibility of it as presented is rather mundane, mechanically. A state (the US) that couldn’t care less about human life other than as a strategic asset calls upon science for a magic bullet answer to some problem, mismanages it, gets an actual bullet instead.
I agree with Jeffery Sachs when it comes to his analysis of the Ukraine war but I’m not in agreement with him about the US lab leak theory.
Honestly I don’t believe any theory that is being pushed about the origins of COVID being a deliberate, conscious act, because most of the theories are being pushed as part of a geopolitical strategy.
Any thoughts on this? Sachs is kind of a respectable figure for the american left, not that it’s that important.
He exposes some progressive views but he is still a liberal. He was one of the economists that advised Yeltsin’s Russia regarding shock therapy. So he has this gigantic skeleton in his closet.

I still listen to him, because I like having a broader view on things, but I would never consider him a comrade.
I agree which is why i find this declaration carrying a lot of weight, it’s coming from a guy with some degree of authority on US politics and carries himself as very rational.
I think it has weight, however, his accusation lacks evidence. He is presenting very circunstancial evidence about a US COVID leak. There’s not even hard evidence of a genetic manipulation of the coronavirus. It’s very unlikely the media will give any attention. If there was even a request for a US lab to use Chinese facilities to spread the virus, both China and the US will keep denying the issue, even if China was the victim in this case.
I thought he felt like he was performing material.
