Don’t have a dog in the race but Max was an awful name that told me nothing about the service. HBO was a super respected name for making decades of high-quality content, who tf suggested they should drop that from the name?
yeah if anything they should have done the opposite and just called the entire streaming platform HBO full stop.
Agree. I never stopped calling it HBO or HBO Max.
This cracks me the fuck up. They’ve changed their service like 1000 times already only to revert back to HBO Max lol
Reminds me of the scene from ‘The Social Network’ where Timberlake’s character says ‘drop the The’ (from The Facebook)… his only contribution . Some branding specialist probably charge HBO Max a few million to make it just ‘Max’
Honestly. It feels like they didn’t even bother to focus group this. I don’t know how execs didn’t have an immediate understanding it was a bad idea, but even if for whatever reason they couldn’t immediately tell, they didn’t bother to check with anyone else. I don’t know a single person who thought it made sense branding wise. They could’ve asked five people on the street and saved millions of dollars. Plus, I had HBO for a bit so they have my email (spam email), every once in a while I’d login and see emails from Max and think it’s like a phishing scam because that’s a pretty common name, but no, turns out they were just emails from HBO lol.
Try Cinemax next round trip lol
