ay mates, this is my first ever post to comradechat or freeship i think
i do not know how to post videos, ever since i posted that Unnamed FOSS Game Thing about assaultcube reloaded, i had to show some gameplay to cement how the mechanics are similar to some shoot games. webms didn’t work, had to resort to very reduced gifs that were glitchy due to my recording software at the time screwing up the video
i know there’s a file size limit, and catbox won’t be around forever like everything in this world. i need an alternative to catbox or a bonafide method to post videos here without having to make an account
please be patient. i am not good with computer
thank you :D
I think stuff like catbox is fine. You will be hardpressed to find a video upload site that is not youtube and also not ephemeral since it is so costly.
happy cake! i see the cake next to your name so happy time of cake! or however should i say it!!
i was told by our good rodent friend graineater that catbox blocks tor users so it’s not ideal. that’s the reason why i thought about this when i made the Unnamed FOSS Game Thing post at the time. the question was there too
PeerTube instances, e.g. TankieTube, integrate well with Lemmy these days.
Edit: You have to create an account though
holy shit, THE tankietanuki, ay mate!!
i know about tankietube tbh, but something something “ip will be seen” something something very scary. at least it’s foss and really good, i like peertube
the thing i was looking for was the stuff like on hexbear cause you are able to post vids there directly somehow
On Hexbear you can upload an MP4 the same way you do a JPG, I think.
a friend of mine (cerealkiller of hexbear.net, check him out he is really cool and a good artist) told me that you can put webms which are smaller than mp4s, but lemmygrad does not support webm vids or mp4s. most likely due to the file size limit
people of lemmygrad hosting depratment, please tell me if i am right about the webm/mp4 stuff. we do use lemmy, i know, but idk why i can’t post videoro that is 6mbs in size. maybe bandwidth? i don’t know how computer works
We allow animations but the allowed limits for resolution and size are comservative.
Pictrs allows video uploads but we don’t allow that.
Reason: poverty. Allowing video uploads is expensive.
understandable, i did think it was cause of server costs tbh
very informative! thank you very much, have a good day mate :)
this means i’d need to either host stuff on peertube
Who is the general secretary of Lemmygrad?
no idea, my question is supposed to be for the hosters of lemmygrad who set it up and stuff
