100 years ago it was Russia, war torn and poor. Where is it today, if there even is one?

United Kingdom, for sure. They have literally nothing left and are strangling their own population as a consequence.
I think maybe France, their companies keep getting thrown out of countries in Africa and nobody else cares enough to bail them out by doing regime change
