It’s unfortunate and deeply troubling this is the only tool available to address school shootings. Multigenerational trauma is real. I can’t help but wonder if living wages, fully funded comprehensive health care, and other robust social safety nets were in place, how many of these might be avoided.

Fully funded comprehensive education, too. Age appropriate psychology and philosophy tucked into classes. Fully funded extracurricular activities, fully funded public transportation…

It’s music to my ears seeing this posted. Guns aren’t going back in the box, and this admin is arming the left at rapid rates.

We need to fix the why this happened, not focusing on the tool that was used.

Strange how the right can ban whatever they don’t like as a solution.

We are losing the equivalent of a war in population every year with more child gun deaths than the rest of the modern world combined.

Looking at just death is not even fair as the majority of Americans now know someone who has died from gun violence. This severely affects our entire society. It is estimated five million women have been threatened by guns. Tens of millions of Americans live in fear everyday for their lives.

All for what? Oh right, to protect corporate profits. We have more guns than people now. Please spare me the dystopian you can’t put the cat back into the bag nonsense.

Strange how the right can ban whatever they don’t like as a solution.

This isn’t a right or left issue. The right banning things doesnt magically make them go away. Prohibition has never worked. Ever.

We are losing the equivalent of a war in population every year with more child gun deaths than the rest of the modern world combined.

2/3rds of our gun deaths are from suicide. Out of what’s left, 1 in 13 are from cops killing us. Then you have gang/drug murders that take up 90% of the rest. Then comes everything else you’re worried about.

We have an issue with our society, not with our guns. Plenty of places in modern society allow citizens to own firearms, but they also have safety nets and actually give a crap about their populous.

Looking at just death is not even fair as the majority of Americans now know someone who has died from gun violence. This severely affects our entire society. It is estimated five million women have been threatened by guns. Tens of millions of Americans live in fear everyday for their lives.

That’s not even close to being true. As I said before, 2/3rds are suicides. The majority fo not know someone who has died from gun violence. I don’t know where you got this idea but the numbers don’t match up at all.

All for what? Oh right, to protect corporate profits. We have more guns than people now. Please spare me the dystopian you can’t put the cat back into the bag nonsense.

What are you talking about? The 2nd amendment is why we’re still allowed to own firearms. The founders put that in place because we just finished fighting a revolution with private arms, and we did so while the British where trying to take said arms as well. I don’t know where you’re getting some of your info but it’s wrong.

Strange, the rest of the modern world regulates guns just fine. I find it funny and telling you jump straight to banning. Considering we have lost close to one million American lives to gun death in the last twenty years outright banning them would be warranted. This is more American lives than every single conflict since WWII. Heavily regulated would be the minimum.

I like how you hand wave close to 50,000 deaths a year from firearms. Oh just suicides, murders, and accidents? That makes it okay. I think you just don’t really care much for human life. Perhaps you’re just fatalistic or maybe just have extremely little regard for human life.

Did you know we are approaching 3,000 child deaths a year now? Compare this to Japan who has exactly zero child deaths per year. I find it strange people find this acceptable when it is only a problem in the US.

You seem to think that if we had a perfect society guns would not be a problem. This is farcical because we already have plenty of non-perfect societies that simply regulate the shit out of firearms.

Once again you hand wave millions of instances of threats by guns every year. Hundreds of thousands of rapes are perpetrated by firearms. Literally millions of woman live under the threat of death by firearm. I think you are extremely naive about human nature and abusive relationships.

We have entire communities that live under the threat of gun violence everyday. Maybe you’re not a big city kid who ducks or hides when a car backfires like tens of millions of your fellow Americans. It is hard to take you seriously when you seem blissfully unaware of this reality

Finally, we get to the crux of your apparent lunacy in regards to guns: the 2nd fucking amendment. A passage that has been manipulated by corporations to allow the wholesale slaughter of Americans. Please name another amendment that allows for this much human suffering and death.

Sorry, but I refuse to let a piece of paper that is readily ignored (see current POTUS) to be used as a tool for corporations to continue to profit off of the destruction of our society. Let me ask you this. Just how many more guns do we need to solve our problems? We are already approaching a two to one ratio for every living man, women, child, and baby. Perhaps a three to one or maybe even a four to one ratio. Seems beyond ridiculous to me.

I don’t know where you are getting your thought process about guns from. Clearly you are missing or outright ignoring a ton of evidence. I suppose it is not surprising considering Congress has been cock blocking meaningful research into gun deaths for the last forty years now for their corporate masters.

Simply put we have waged a war against our own society so corporations can continue to make record profits. I personally know several people who have died by firearms including my own brother. I don’t take this subject lightly and I don’t buy into the fetisation of guns.

This is more American lives than every single conflict since WWII. Heavily regulated would be the minimum.

The rest of the modern world has safety nets, smaller civ populations, less diversity, and has way way less firearms in civ hands than the USA has ever had.

On top of that, as I stated before, 2/3rds of our firearm deaths are from suicides. Which shows that you don’t really care about the numbers, just that “guns r bad”.

I like how you hand wave close to 50,000 deaths a year from firearms. Oh just suicides, murders, and accidents? That makes it okay. I think you just don’t really care much for human life. Perhaps you’re just fatalistic or maybe just have extremely little regard for human life.

38-40k is our average, it’s not close to 50k at all. And yes, suicides happen, regardless of the tool used. Japan has a much higher rate of suicide than we do, and they have an effective complete ban in place of firearms. This tells you that it’s not the tool used. But fuck it. You don’t care because “guns r bad”

Did you know we are approaching 3,000 child deaths a year now? Compare this to Japan who has exactly zero child deaths per year. I find it strange people find this acceptable when it is only a problem in the US.

No…no we are not. More kids die from drowning than from firearms. It’s like 900+ a year. Firearm deaths for children is around 250

You seem to think that if we had a perfect society guns would not be a problem. This is farcical because we already have plenty of non-perfect societies that simply regulate the shit out of firearms.

Those non perfect societies you keep pointing out give a shit about their citizens.

Mexico has basically a full ban on firearms, same with Brazil. Prohibition does not work.

Once again you hand wave millions of instances of threats by guns every year. Hundreds of thousands of rapes are perpetrated by firearms. Literally millions of woman live under the threat of death by firearm. I think you are extremely naive about human nature and abusive relationships.

No they do not. And you’re assuming that rape isn’t going to happen when firearms are removed.

Go look and see how that’s working out for India which also has a ban on civ ownership of firearms, yet has a massive problem with rape.

We have entire communities that live under the threat of gun violence everyday. Maybe you’re not a big city kid who ducks or hides when a car backfires like tens of millions of your fellow Americans. It is hard to take you seriously when you seem blissfully unaware of this reality

Cool…wonder why that is? Is it because of the guns or because of the people in poverty?

Shit it’s like violence is there with or without the guns.

Finally, we get to the crux of your apparent lunacy in regards to guns: the 2nd fucking amendment. A passage that has been manipulated by corporations to allow the wholesale slaughter of Americans. Please name another amendment that allows for this much human suffering and death.

Uhh the fuck are you on about. The 2nd was not written for corporations…just stop

Wait, so you see the problem with this administration, and you want them to ban the ability for minorities to defend themselves…got it.

I don’t know where you are getting your thought process about guns from. Clearly you are missing or outright ignoring a ton of evidence. I suppose it is not surprising considering Congress has been cock blocking meaningful research into gun deaths for the last forty years now for their corporate masters.

No…no they haven’t. The CDC has produced tons of gun research. The block was set in place because the CDC decided to state they wanted to make the numbers show that “guns r bad”. Aka they had an agenda to drive. They %100 can do research, as can anyone else.

Simply put we have waged a war against our own society so corporations can continue to make record profits. I personally know several people who have died by firearms including my own brother. I don’t take this subject lightly and I don’t buy into the fetisation of guns.

I’m just reading you’re confusing corporate America with gun laws. This has nothing to do with them.

The rest of the world has proper gun regulation. I think you fail to understand just the free for all America is with guns.

I guess you don’t care about suicides or the fact that limiting access to guns would save lives. I already provided a source that disproves your uninformed opinions about gun suicide.

                “In 2023, there were 46,728 gun-related deaths”

Oh looks like closer to 50k than your made up estimates. Your inability to see reality and hand wave these deaths away is pathetic to say the least

Don’t blame the tool is a tired argument that the rest of the world recognizes as a fallacy. But do keep repeating it as it shows your ignorance in this matter.

“Guns r bad” is better than the reality of ammosexuals and gun nutters. Apparently “guns r gud” is all you can comprehend.

I already gave statistics about child gun deaths backed up by actual research. Your whataboutism is very telling.

Oh yes, all those modern countries in Europe and places like Japan that don’t care about their citizens because they won’t give them unsupervised access to guns. I am not sure where you are coming from but it is probably something dumb like American Exceptionalism.

Bringing up Mexico is pretty rich considering their gun problems are directly related to ours.

Without a gun a lot of rapes would not happen in the US. Just like suicides access to firearms emboldens poor decisions.

Once again I know several women who were sexually assaulted and afraid to leave because of threats to their life with a firearm. Sorry to burst your bubble. You probably have never been threatened by a gun or raped so I think I am going to take your opinion with a grain of salt.

The 2nd amendment is determined by court decisions from lawsuits brought by corporations. The fact that you don’t recognize this shows you really don’t understand how case law and precedent actually work.

Pretending corporations are not behind this is a profound disservice to reality. Hell, Congress even passed a law protecting gun manufacturers from lawsuit. Pathetic that you carry so much water for them.

Oh gawd, they literally passed a law to prevent gun research from receiving federal funds. It was called the Dickey amendment. Before this they purposely underfunded this research and punished those engaging in it.

We may never know the full magnitude of destruction from guns because our corporate masters don’t want us to see the true horror of what has happened. I know you could give a shit about human life, but not everyone is as callous and thoughtless as you are.

At this point I think we have exposed you for the gun extremist you pretend not to be. This is important because a lot of people like you want to pretend they are moderates when in the grand scheme of things you are not.

You inability to understand that corporations write the majority of our laws is staggering to say the least.

                https://publicintegrity.org/politics/state-politics/copy-paste-legislate/you-elected-them-to-write-new-laws-theyre-letting-corporations-do-it-instead/

Furthermore the rich and powerful continue to write laws that are unpopular with citizens. Your ignorance in this area is profound.

                https://www.minnpost.com/eric-black-ink/2015/05/disturbing-data-rich-and-powerful-get-their-policies-adopted-even-if-opposed/

I think at this point we can agree to disagree.

A drive through culture has been taught to focus on drive through solutions, and to be ever-busy, ever distracted, because if we start asking thoughtful questions, seeking thoughtful solutions, we may get ideas, and the kleptocrat class can’t have that. And it’s why they keep us focused on culture wars.

Australia isn’t remotely comparable. They never had the gun culture we have and the guns that were turned in were a bunch of rusty beaters no one wanted. (If you know what you’re looking at, there are plenty of pics out there.)

They never had the shear number and variety of guns we have. And those numbers have expanded wildly in the past decade or two. For example, no one really new what an AR was until they were banned, now it’s the most popular rifle in America.

Most important, Australia didn’t have a constitutional right to bear arms. Doesn’t matter if you agree, doesn’t matter how you parse the words, the 2A exists and the courts have almost always upheld it.

          Also, Australia didn’t ban guns.

            Nailed it.

60% was Australias turn in rate…they had around 1mil guns in civ hands at that time. If we had a 60% turn in rate, we’d still have over 100 million firearms in civ hands. On top of that, like you said, Australia has more guns now than before the ban.

Kids continue to die to treatable illnesses via vaccine yet that’s also still going. How about sensors in cars to yell you that you’ve left your child in the car? Required carbon monoxide detectors instead of only smoke alarms? I’m America, choice is first priority and safety is second at best.
