Pretty much the title. It’s really weird to scratch my chin and not run my fingers through hair. As a plus, my five year old keeps telling me “you look like a completely different person. But I still know you’re my daddy!”
Some kids absolutely freak out about big visual changes in a parent, so it sounds like that’s the best reaction you could have hoped for!
I haven’t shaved off the beard since the pandemic, but I did trim it (and my hair) when the kid was young…er. The kid literally didn’t even notice. Their mother even tried to direct their attention to my fact and the kid didn’t notice a difference.
I’ve self diagnosed as face blind, so maybe they inherited that.
Nicer that way than the emotional scarring from when my dad surprised us by shaving one side of it off before coming down for breakfast.
My older brothers apparently screamed and cried when our dad shaved his mustache when they were little.
My dad had me help him cut of his beard, so it wouldn’t be weird to me. I was around this age too. It was a bit weird, but also exciting to do and I never had any dysphoria (of that word applies here)

My step kids have never known me without a beard. They saw a photo of me clean shaven from about a year before I met their mother, and my stepdaughter looked at me, then the photo and said “Ew… Gross… Never shave your beard…”

My wife saw me without a beard for the first time in almost 20 years. After she kept staring at me for about a week, I let it grow back. The relief was visible. That was probably the longest I’ve been without a beard since I was 18.
I’m not sure how big your beard was but in the past when I’ve shaved after having a larger one for a long time I get a little bit of body dysmorphia about my chin, it feels like it’s missing
I’ve got the most patchy bs beard ever, but since letting it grow over covid I haven’t been able to keep it shaved. I barely recognize myself anymore under the beard.

I participated in a group interview during the pandemic. The interviewee had a really nice beard and one of the other interviewers said “that’s an awesome beard, is it a pandemic beard or from beforehand?” I actually started growing mine about six months beforehand, but it probably wouldn’t have become what it did without those circumstances.
I buzzed my own hair for the first time, then chickened out partway through and ended up with a buzz cut and bangs. I’m very glad nobody had to see me for long enough to grow it out
The clippers broke 3/4 the way thru a head shave once.

During pandemic I bought a trimmer and used it for trimming my hair. I just let the hair grow so that I can use a comb.
I’ve been growing mine out longest ever had it over the last 3 months. Shits looking super scraggly now lol I’ve been using this shampoo I got for free off Amazon that supposedly helps hair growth. Hasn’t worked well on my balding spot on my head, but seems to be working wonders on my beard.
