I mean there will be total shock in the US in like 4-5 years when the ILRS begins construction and finishes by 2035 & suddenly China, Russia, and Venezuela (plus 9 other countries including South Africa billionaire-tears and Pakistan) have a moon base meanwhile NASA/ESA/JAXA and the US will still be huffing copium about SLS & Artemis.

Fun fact - SLS has had a single fucking launch, which was planned for 2016 and didn’t even actually launch until 2022. The first actually crewed launch won’t happen until 2026 and that’s assuming it isn’t delayed. Artemis III, which is planned for like 2027/2028 will be the actual first crewed lunar landing since 1972 (and it hinges on SpaceX being able to deliver upon a lunar lander that they will also have to launch into lunar orbit prior to Artemis III so…) provided China doesn’t beat them to it, which…is likely lmao
