I did it! It was a very short cycle. Just around the block. But, given both the ongoing maintenance needs of the bike and (perhaps more relevantly) my own level of confidence after years of not cycling, I am calling that a win.
Maintenance-wise, I think the tyres need replaced. Looking pretty haggard. Confidence-wise, probably gradually increasing the loop. The legs aren’t used to the motion of cycling anymore either so physically a gradual increase is probably a good idea.
Potentially going for a short cycle as a bit of grease and percussive maintenance seems to have fixed the bike (for now).
