Plus bonus question: What is a unique, niche little experience near you or that you’ve been to? There’s a place near me known as the Tulip House that’s in bloom atm:
You can see plenty of pictures of the flowers online, so here’s a picture of some of the cute art they have up accompanying it
Ooh, I didn’t know about this place, I’m going to check it out next week.
A woman I tried to sleep with about a decade ago recently gained some internet infamy after being filmed calling an autistic child the n-word in a public park. She’s now raised about a quarter of a million dollars from bigots across the world and I’m questioning how I ever found this woman attractive.
If so, oof. Generally MN is better than that. We’ve got some crazies but not so proudly racist.
Yep, that’s her.
About 10 years ago I was working at a liquor store in a poor neighborhood and she was a 2-3 times a week customer. She seemed a lot nicer (and more attractive) at the time.
Minnesotans are just better at hiding it due to “Minnesota Nice” (passive aggression). Working in liquor stores you see people at their least filtered.
My week has been fucking desperate. I got laid off by DOGE. I’m getting radio silence from every place I apply at. I hate this stupid country and I hate that I don’t have an option to emigrate out.
I am so, so very sorry to hear that. That really sucks:-(. I hope that you find something you can live with, or even go straight to something good, if you can find it.:-)
emigrate*
I’ll edit that.
I hear that. Ive wanted out for a while myself; i got moved to a different role for a reorg, frankly hate my job at this point.
I’m waiting to hear if I’m approved for DRP; i know damn well I’m redundant and likely to be hit by DOGE, and my severance would be fuck all if I’m let go (I’m barely out of probationary status, so severance might pay bills for a couple months at best)
Fully expect my org to screw me over and try to mark me as “essential” tbh.
After a year of surgery, chemo, and recovery, my wife’s blood tests came back with troubling results.
That sucks. Best of luck to you both going forward. Fuck cancer.
Seconded.
Also, Cascadia Forever!
It’s you, me, and Sasquatch just chillin’ up here in the best place on earth. 🌊⛰️🌲☀️
Shhhh. Keep it down! We don’t want anymore mouthbreathin’ fucknuts wandering over from Idaho, Wyoming, etc., FFS. 🥲😅🥹
FWIW, I first read that as “sugary chemo”, and my mind raced in wonder for the half-second it took to reread it. 😅 Hope that can bring a smirk to your paired efforts against that insidious bastard that drags all crab-kind through the muck.
That sounds expensive.
I am in the US, but my health insurance has kept us from bankruptcy.
Finally had a full week of work for the first time since February, so that’s nice.
Yay I’m happy for you! 😊
I have noticed a distinct lack of bees in my garden. My lilac bush and fruit trees are usually humming in springtime. The local beekeepers tell me that the unusual winter we had was hard on the hives, and a lot of bees died. I hope they rebound!
Unique experience: This isn’t totally unique, but a local ice cream shop sells affogato (ice cream with a shot of espresso poured over the top). I need to get one soon and eat it outside in the sunshine!
Have you looked into housing some mason bees out yonder? They’re adorable and far more effective in every way than typical honey bees, too. IIRC, the Portland Fruit Tree Project can set you up with little tube-stack houses and bees for free. ✊🏼🌞🌻
I will have to look into mason bees. I have heard of them but never read up on them.
I was gifted a flow hive and neglected to source a brood of honey bees over the winter, so it’s empty at the moment. If I’m lucky I might “catch” a new queen and her entourage later in the season when they are splitting off from established hives and looking for a new home.
Hey, of you’re already that far along, hit up one of your friendly apiarists for advice! That’s awesome, so keep going! 🤓
FWIW, bats are also pollinators AND eat most of the pests that wanna bite ya. 🦇🖤
I would be attending the local beekeepers’ club meetings, but the meeting time conflicts with another regular activity of mine.
And getting a bat box is also on my to-do list. So many things to do, and never enough time!
I genuinely envy you in this. 🙇🏽♂️ Keep being awesome! 🤘🏼
Medical bills are high. My limited energy due to chronic illness is going towards taking care of my family, who is doing as much as they can to pull their own weight. I still do the majority of the work due to differing levels of ability.
Being disabled sucks because I wish I could do more for my community but tbh I’m just a drain.
Nevertheless, I’m enjoying the nice weather. We have some agritourism around here. There’s a pumpkin patch that’s open in the fall, and we have some great hiking trails in the foothills.
