no ps6 until the difference in quality is as monumental as PS1=>PS2 or PS2=>PS3 or PS3=>PS4

the PS5 was cool and all, but really felt like a PS4 pro plus.

console generations shouldn’t be just a spec bump, they should be categorically different machines that can run things that are inconceivable in previous generations.

Agreed, and to pull that off they will have to be powered by a GPU that is an order of magnitude more powerful than a 5090.

We will need full path tracing in every game for the next gen to be a monumental improvement over the last, and I won’t accept anything less than a locked 120 FPS (ideally 240+) @ 4K. (They can use DLSS if they have to in order to achieve that.) I was using an 85Hz monitor in the 90s FFS; 60Hz is a ridiculously outdated target to reach for.

This is what it’s going to take to convince me to buy a PS6 or the latest XBOX, at the very minimum. Delay the consoles for a decade if you have to; I’m happy with my 4090 for the foreseeable future.

my laptop has a 3060 and it never felt underpowered, yhea, a stronger GPU would be better, but not by that much.

Exactly the point. Your laptop is more powerful than a PS5, but not by an order of magnitude. The next gen consoles have to do way better than a 3060 in order to achieve that massive jump in graphical fidelity that console gamers have come to expect with each new generation. It’s pointless. The PS5 is powerful enough. We don’t need a PS6 anytime soon.

I won’t buy a PS6 until 2028/9 for sure as I still feel like my base PS5 hasn’t been pushed to its limits at all.

Combine this to the fact that I’ll slowly switch to Steam Deck gaming and the (maybe) departure of physical games and I can say that I ain’t looking foward to a new generation of consoles coming out soon.

I’m an American. I just ordered a disk PS5 / astrobot bundle for $450 before any large tariff hikes. I’ve waited years for budget PCs to return, but I think the signs are all pointing to poor value in that space, and my steam deck and old 1070 are just not quite enough for some games.
