Edges closer to?

They ran out of food this week. As in, basically 0, with 0 coming in.

They’re “edging” closer to mass starvation, and they’re already pretty close. Famine is what they’re already in and have been for some time.

If they weren’t shooting journalists and the Western press wasn’t so shitty and cowardly, it would be a much bigger deal in the media. It’s about to be a big deal after the fact, when whole towns start dropping dead. Or kind of a big deal at least. I hope I am wrong, but I don’t see any other outcome.
