The clean-up followed concerns raised by housing tenants about the condition of shared spaces on the estate, which we manage. In response, 14 volunteers – including staff from two of our contractors – came together to remove 1.5 tonnes of moss, weeds and litter in just one day.
The event was delivered using social value commitments built into our contracts. Social value ensures that, beyond the core services being paid for, contractors also give back to local communities – for example by donating time, staff or equipment to support estate improvements.
Councillor Steven Watkins, our Executive Member for Assets, Business and Housing, said:
Council tenants pay rent, and it’s important they see the value in the services we deliver. Clean, safe and well-maintained estates are a big part of that. This is a great example of how we’re listening to residents, taking action, and making the most of our partnerships to improve neighbourhoods where our tenants live.
