Yay yay yippety yay yay!

😀 I love art. Does art love me? I’m not sure. Self portrait is hard. It feels like I HAVE TO KNOW MYSELF AND THIS ART IS AN EFFORT TO DEFINE ONESELF and it is like AHHHHHHHHHH I can’t do it. Oh well. ! I had another draft before this, then I started pinching slapping scratching punching the canvas (not with my whole strength) with paint and frustration! After like weeks I finally revisited this, and I think… I THINK THIS IS GOING SOMEWHERE!! (Added the snail person and sea TODAY)

I’m not the paint master, nor a knower of the strokes, just a lover of the arts 👍

Mmm, I’m not very experienced with painting, or oil paints, so please let me knoweth of your tips and suggestions! :D

Learning to be faster, not worry about visible brush stroke texture, accept mistakes and draw confidently and not try to hone into one spot over and over

Accepting mistakes as part of the process is such a great attitude to have!

I do like the painterliness at this scale. Photographing it outdoors was a good choice to show the texture of the paint. There is a thin shadow across it. I’d love to see it under interior lighting. I’d encourage you to use your palette knife or course broad brushes to really push that texture! (Might wanna do a study or two first)

I think my favorite moment is the marbling effect of the background. I can tell you liked experimenting mixing directly on the canvas. I’d suggest reading/watching some videos of following “fat over lean” when using oils. Oils are funny. Each color has its own chemistry and personality.

The snail person and sea work very well with the under painting. I appreciate the rendering of the waves. I’m going to push you to add feet to the snail person. I know it’s hard! Feet are the devil! But you can do it!
