So I had the measles back in the mid 90s (the last outbreak). I was vaccinated but still got it cause vaccinations aren’t 100%.

I was young. I was hospitalized for like a week. My mom says I almost died.

My memories of it are vague but I do recall being hospitalized. Pneumonia. Something about a kidney infection too. Maybe from being in bad condition.

Measles can damage hearing. Permanently. Measles encephalitis. That can also cause brain damage resulting in permanent cognitive disability.

I was fortunately not one of them. But that can happen.

      This isn’t some common cold.

Measles kills children or can leave them disabled.

      Wtf is wrong with people?

Its only bleak for the dumb people who aren’t vaccinated, right?

I mean this isnt like covid where unvaccinated people can still get vaccinated people sick…

I mean vaccines aren’t always 100%. If you’ve been vaccinated you’ll have a much stronger immune response, but it is still possible to get measles if you’ve been vaccinated. 2 doses of the MMR vaccine is on average 97% effective in preventing measles infection (per Mayo Clinic https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/measles/expert-answers/getting-measles-after-vaccination/faq-20125397).

The bigger issue (like with Covid shots, flu shots, and everything else) is that there are elderly & immunocompromised folks who can’t get vaccines. Their immune systems aren’t strong enough to handle the small dose in the innoculation. So the only way those people are protected is through herd immunity, relying on the rest of us to protect ourselves and our community.
